I strip my paint using rocks from the trail
  • I actually realy thought this was great...the fact he was only armed with knowledge from viewers comments and a little research of youtube made this all more real world for people out of there comfort zone. So i only feel it is right that this should become a series....we have Blake builds so now we need HENRY HOPES!...glad you put the vid up Henry.

You need to roughen the paint up by lightly sanding with 80 - 180 grit sand paper before applying paint stripper so that it will soak in and lift

Local car body shop, twenty quid for the bloke to stick it in the shot cabinet, ten minutes later, job jobbed!

10 out of 10 for sticking with it Henry. 👍
  • "I was like a kid a Christmas, brimming with enthusiasm as I excitedly inspected it, before I realised Father Christmas hadn't left me any presents and Rudolph had left a turd in my stocking" I was eating when he said that and almost choked myslef .

Went through the same process myself. Stripper never worked like “advertised”. Happy to see I’m not alone with my paint removal problems haha.

When it comes to stripping the paint back to the metal it is best to avoid sand paper or orbital sanders, there is actually specifically designed paint stripper discs that you can get for grinders / drills and dremal's, they are like loose fiber pads like scouring pads only harder, but they pull the paint off in seconds but do not damage the metal if it is steel, alloy frames will get some marks but no where near as bad as sand paper marks

Scuffing the paint beforehand with rough sandpaper will make the stripper work much better. It also helps to lay it on thick.

Great job Henry, the results are worth it, this will give you a unique bike and a great conversation piece on the trails. I did this to a bike I have that you actually featured on top mods. I used furniture paint stripper and mothers mag wheel polish and found great results. Look forward to you doing a complete build on this

"Safety glasses when using paint stripper" 😳 It flicks off the brush. Bike shops don't sell spare eyes 🤓 Good channel 👍
  • @SlothedOutSteve
I recommend watching a dude called, ETOE he's got mad bike designs & spray painting skills.
  • Henry this video was awesome! You get a lot of tutorials for various things and the video makes things looks so easy.... yet coming to do it yourself... something always goes wrong. Love to see how people get around problems, This is how tutorials/builds should be!
  • @stanp2281
I would die to see Henry do a custom paint job 🤤
  • @298wasabi
I did this last year. Apparently in the states they don't sell the really gnarly stripper anymore that made the job look oh so easy in numerous youtube tutorials... still got er done! Albeit with some chemical burns to the ole mits.

I sanded down an old dirt jump frame by hand and couldn't manage to sand around all the cable mounts and welds so finished it off with paint stripped worked like a dream. I ended up putting a few layers of clear coat over it but now it has started to have some surface rust come through. Its been turned into a ski bike now. Good to know the nukeproofs have good paint as I own two.
  • Great video. I think I’ll be popping my aluminium frame to my local car body shop for a spot of sand blasting though! That looked like a whole lot of hard work!
  • @julianw5692
Wasting lots of plastic here. Edit: this seems like a sneaky way of demonstrating how high quality nukeproof paint is!
