CAPTURING THE RAILS IS NOW CTR AERIAL!! Please subscribe for new drone footage uploaded every week!

In mid June, 2000, my friend and I took a couple days off work and headed up to Erie, PA. The main reason for this trip was the famous street running on West 19th Street in Erie, but as you will see we didn't get much for that. On Wednesday the 14th we went to Harborcreek, PA where the CSX Chicago Line (ex. NYC Water Level Route), NS Buffalo District (ex Nickel Plate) and the GE Locomotive Test Track all run parallel and are all visible. The GE test track had a pair of BNSF locos running back and forth all day, while the CSX line was extremely busy with all intermodal or manifest trains, many with foreign power. NS threw a couple trains in as well. One little gem to look out for is the open auto carrier on 310...I had never seen one before, and have never seen one since (doubt there are any left). After dinner we were gonna head over to 19th St but a nasty storm blew threw and forced us to go back to our hotel, which ended up having no power (still didn't have it the next morning when we left). After the storm we went out and didn't see a thing until train 206 came through just after midnight. That was the only train I ever saw on 19th St. The following morning we headed to Northeast, PA where once again both lines run close together. I got a few trains here before we called it a day and made the LONG drive back home.

  • Great footage! Things have changed a lot in 17 years. It's cool seeing all the Conrails, Geeps, and even freshly-painted H2 BNSFs

wow, i’m blown away! awesome video!!! crazy how boring it’s gotten, i say the early 2000s we’re one of the best times to watch trains. unfortunately i didn’t start till 2006 (i was 7 at the time) and didn’t take pics NEARLY as much as i should’ve, i’m beyond tired of csx engines 3000-3474 now that’s literally all you see. BIG THUMBS UP!!

Really brings back memories from when I used to live there. Watching CSX and NS trains roll by Pittsburgh avenue in 2004-2007 is what got me into trains in the first place

Nice video! I was born a few months later in 2000. Neat stuff, interesting to see how much changed in a relatively short time period

Beautiful footage at 9:37, it's nice to see the world at night before it was ruined by LED lights.

That RS3L in the first clip is a monster! It might be a Prime 920 actually, as it sounds similar to 6936’s Prime horn.

So cool to these those conrail locomotives. This was a great video. Thanks for posting!

I remember back when I lived in erie from 2005-2007, all the colorful Conrail, Santa Fe, BNSF, UP and CSX/NS LASHUPS coming by Pittsburgh Avenue, and the trains of stored cars coming by the original NS Main line crossing at Pittsburgh Avenue

The GE plant in Erie,PA is where the new locomotives are built for the major railroads ,the way the engines are delivered is interesting, say for example Union Pacific (UP) ordered 100 locomotives and GE has 4 ready to be shipped, the locomotives are placed on the ready track CSX and NS has their mainline tracks right by the plant, CSX meanwhile has lease locos to return to GE,the lease power is coupled to a west bound train (NY to Chicago) and when they get to the plant the lease power is removed and switched to the tracks leading to the plant, the new UP locos (CSX crewed) are moved to be coupled to the WB train and continues to Chicago to be delivered to the UP or used as pool power,I'm not sure but the lease payments don't start for UP until the locos are actually on UP's home rails,It's a win-win for both UP and CSX, UP doesn't have to pay the cost of shipping the locos to them and CSX uses the new locos instead of their own to power their train.

I was only a year and a half old when this footage was shot. Crazy to think a lot of the power in this video is gone.
  • See THIS is the golden age right here. Now you don’t see stuff like this anymore with that dreadful PSR going on.
