[Verse 1]
The pagodas and the palaces
Dressed in gold leaf, hide the damages
Spot the Geisha as she balances
Life's a cakewalk, full of challenges
Go to Russia, see the Red Square
Lenin's body lying dead there
From Kyoto, Hiroshima
Watch the black cloud crawling nearer
[Pre-Chorus 1]
There were riots in America
Just when things were getting better
All the things I've done and seen
Still I don't know what life means
[Chorus]
All the people living in, living in the world today
We're united by our love, we're united by our pain (Ooh)
All the things that I've done and I've seen
Still, I don't know, don't know what it means
[Verse 2]
Fly to Athens, pass the Parthenon
See the village where my father's from
To Chicago from Angola
São Paulo to Verona
[Pre-Chorus 2]
And anywhere you go, you'll see (Ooh)
People are just like you and me (Ooh)
All the things I've done and seen
Still, I don't know what life means
[Chorus]
All the people living in, living in the world today
We're united by our love, we're united by our pain (Ooh)
All the things that I've done and I've seen
Still, I don't know, don't know what it means
To be human
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh)
Still, I don't know, don't know what it means
To be human, a real human being
[Bridge]
I like to think about how we all look from afar
People driving fancy cars look like beetles to the stars
The missiles and the bombs sound like symphonies gone wrong
And if there is a God, they'll know why it's so hard
[Chorus]
To be human
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh)
To be human
Still, I don't know, don't know what it means
To be human, a real human being
[Outro]
(To be human)
I want connection, ooh
I wanna feel human again
(To be human)
Lost my direction, ooh
I wanna feel human again
To be human, to be human
To be human, to be human

this song has a sense of rhythm that doesn't exist in any other song. like damn

"there where riot's in America, just when things where getting better" Is far to accurate for my liking now

This is one of the few songs I think is way better as nightcore. When I listened to the original I felt super patronized, but with the sped of version, it lingers less on the unity and more on the confusion, as also results in a more childlike sound of someone trying to understand the world. This feels way more emotionally impactful to me than the original song as a result, even though most aspects are left unchanged.

This song gave me chills, especially everything leading into the first chorus. The singing in this part is beautiful, sounds almost graceful, but you can feel the dystopia of the lyrics through the almost-haunting notes. There's a mixed sense of realization, sadness, hope, curiosity, and dread that I got from a lot of this song. The idea of seeking the purpose in living and searching for humanity in such a chaotic and damaged world touches way too close to heart, for many, and the struggle unites us, despite whatever differences we may have.

This is the kind of song that takes your attention off what you're doing and forces you to actually listen to it, the lyrics and the melody is that good

“Lost my direction, I wanna feel human again” this verse strikes me hard
-
Why does this song become more and more relevant each month...
-
My best friend showed me this, says it reminds her of me.. I’m super existentially weird. A few years ago, I told her I realized I’ve never been truly human.. she reminded me and showed me this. This song always reminds me of that moment.. it’s bittersweet, it was one of the last truly happy moments we’ve had in a long time.

Saw this in my recommendations and love it. Has a unique rhythm and the message that it tells
-
Honestly, this song keeps getting more and more relatable.
