I think the real power of this film was it's tangible nature-- it's real, it feels like a life you've lived, it feels familiar.
  • I like when Ladybird's first boyfriend crumbles into her arms. Such an unconventional end of a relationship for a teen movie.

Lady bird is the first time I've seen my relationship with my mother portrayed on screen. Wild.
  • I think it’s hard to get the hype surrounding lady bird if you don’t have some sort of strained mother daughter relationship. It’s the first time I’ve seen a mother daughter dynamic onscreen that feels real rather than overly lovey or totally distant like it’s usually portrayed as
  • I think the reason that alot of people dislike this film is that they simply can not relate to it whether that is becase of race, age or class. If you dont have similar experince to the protagnist the story to you is bland and unoriginal. Lady bird requries you to bring your own past experince into the movie to recive any meaning from it. That is specifically what makes this movie amazing to some and not so good to others. I think the comments under this video is just a reflection of that phenomenon.

this movie's portrayal of a mother daughter-relationship is too real

I love the character timothee chalemet plays. That’s what made it real. That one guy in high school that you thought the world of but in the end he was just using you and is basically full of shit

the part where ladybird says "I know you love me but do you like me?" hit me.

I loved how they humanized each character and gave them enough depth so that they didn't feel made up but actually real. Even the supposed antagonists didn't have this cartoonish feel to them and werent completely unlikeable. Everything that happened in the movie felt right, not perfect.

It nice to see this being labelled as a coming-of-age film and not a "chick flick"

I loved when she just gets out of the moving car. I have wanted to do that so many times while arguing with my mom xD

Funny how we say "not so distant year of 2002", but people born in 2002 can drive cars now.
  • The quietness of it. As Greta Gerwig said, "None of these events happened, but they're all True."
  • this movie made me sob so hard when I first saw it because Ladybirds relationship with her mom is alot like mine like we literally had the argument of "I wanna take french" "but you'll actually use Spanish and french is dumb" while we were waiting for the movie to start
  • I love this movie with all my heart but one thing that I really like about the movie is how the side characters aren’t just props but have character , just because we look into the story of ladybird doesn’t mean that the side characters don’t have their stories to tell This movie is absolutely amazing and the director has blown my socks off , thank you for this coming of age tale

I'm okay with saying that this movie is very good and has many layers, but saying that its cliche-free is just a lie.
  • I find it odd that you decided to call the movie "cliché-free" when it used one of the oldest clichés in the book (character trying to fit in with the cool kids and losing their best friend because of it).

I'm not white neither American. I was raised by a poor family in a middle eastern country but I still I love this story, I don't think it's bland at all. I really liked the conflict of mother-daughter. Not everyone's life is eventful, it shows simplicity with complex emotions.
