I was raise only on English, so I've always left Rec Room in English. But then, I became curious...

another point with the mix of english and other languages is that a lot of people in other countries can speak some kind of english nowadays. the US are just very monolingual, though lots of foreign countries are multilingual (i just wrote an essay on this trust 💀) if they didn’t speak some kind of english, they probably do not play rec room solely for the fact that it is a game created in english if you catch my drift

2:10 On language support in rooms: It is extremely difficult to support certain languages in rooms, specifically ones that use different writing systems, such as Korean, Japanese, Arabic, and Chinese. Even though you can for some reason send messages in those languages (except Arabic) on the watch (as long as you're in screen mode), last I checked circuits do not support those writing systems, so you can't make UI prompts or text or anything in rooms be in one of those languages. In order to give some sort of support to players using those languages, you would have to use the maker pen to physically draw out each character which takes up ink and time, and would need a separate system from whatever circuits you have, so many creators don't. Likewise, you cannot use special characters in room names, so all names have to at least be in the letters of the alphabet though I'm not sure that can ever change. And ofc you can't write in other writing systems using the Rec Room in-game keyboard either in VR. However, the descriptions of some rooms will be automatically translated to whatever language you have set, so that's kinda cool.

Ruth you have to translate this just... for fun! "Ruth soy una persona que habla español pero gracias a duolingo (que te lo recomiendo si quieres aprender idiomas) pude hablar inglés asi que soy bilingüe y tu contenido me gusta además de este video que visitaste mi lenguaje"

As a person who speaks English and Spanish, I introduced my Spanish speaking grandpa to rec room and he could figure out what to do

I'm being nerdy but 6:50 funny thing about this Japanese translation, almost the whole sentence is words borrowed from English: スコアボードのスタートボタンを押してプレイします is basically: ScoreboardのStartButtonを押してPlayします スコアボード - sukoaboodo - scoreboard スタートボタン - sutaato'botan - Start Button プレイ - purei - play And tbh that's most translations for video games. The settings menu for Japanese on RR is also mostly borrowed words
  • I'm learning Japanese+Spanish and sometimes I'll do this to help me learn. It helps me memorize different things and even though not much is translated it still helps quite a lot! (Trying to learn 2 languages at the same time sucks btw XD)

I do think they should change the text on everything to the language your using, but I dont think they would change the text on posters & stuff since they are in game models.

I have a friend in the Netherlands that can only speak Dutch and English and there are no Dutch options so he chose English
  • @LexiTheSmexy
as someone who’s first language is German, playing rec room isn’t that hard. Sure its weird seeing random English words, but it’s helped me learn English and make it my second language! Thanks to rec room and duolingo, you would think English was my first language !❤

  • @redthescratcher
The language setting is NOT yet completed thats why i use English and no Spanish as my nomal language Spanish (i dont use translate i learn English from school and Duolingo)
  • @weegee3000
its extremely surprising to me that recroom wouldnt translate the in game text
  • @superkii
I hope they add some kind of google translate for all the cv2 chips that is easy to set up but is also easy to change if you actually know what it would be in that other language.
