Kanto does not have many original cries

I noticed about 25 cries that were shared. I didn't include variations of a cry if it's limited to just one evolutionary line i.e. Diglett/Dugtrio or the Nidoran family, but if the evolutionary line shares it with someone else, I included it i.e. Growlithe, Machoke, Machamp.

EDIT 4/8/17: I've been getting so many comments about Jolteon and Flareon's cries being mixed up, no need to leave more comments about them. Also pro-tip, read the comments to make sure you aren't saying something that's already been said. Just a piece of comment section etiquette.

It's a real shame that Stadium's cries were never reused, because they took these metallic noises and made legitimately animalistic sounds out of it.
  • Gen 1 fans having a conversation about their favorite cry: “You know the one that goes bee boo boo bop” “No man, you’re thinking of the one that goes bee BOO BOO bop”

Imagine battling a pokemon in real life and they sound like a fax machine when they faint
  • 1:22 "Hey, kids, what does the cat say?" "Meow!" "Good, now what does the seahorse say?" "Meow!"

And THAT kids... Is why Pokemon say their own names in the anime.

I always loved Meowth's cry. It actually sounds like a little "me-ow!"
  • If an evolved Pokémon shares a similar cry with it's previous form, I feel like that gets a pass. It even makes sense. But when Poliwag and Ditto sound exactly alike, that's when it's interesting.

let's see if anyone in the comments is angry for no reason. yup
  • the thing is, they all fit so perfectly, even if one is a mushroom and the other a terrifying clone monster.
  • To this day, I still cannot hear any difference between Charizard's and Rhyhorn's cries
  • @eonshade6297
all others: sounding very similar charizard and rhyhorn: literally the same
  • To be fair, there were a bunch of technical limitations that led to a bunch of cry bases being shared by multiple Pokémon.
  • @Gayoinion
It’s honestly really cool how they tried to convey personality with these 8-bit sounds
