Who is here while reading "A promised land" to watch the speech Obama is talking about in the third chapter?
  • @Sanman95
This speech is the definition of "rising star". Obama went from relatively unknown outside of Illinois to a national figure in one night and it paved the way to us having our first black president!!! History was made here and these people didn't even realize it

I'll never forget watching this speech when I was in high school. My Republican dad smiled and said "I really like this guy, I hope we see more of him"

The only occasion I can think of where someone won the presidency 4 years in advance. Incredible speech.
  • If there is a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read that matters to me even if it's not my child. Such a powerful speech 🙌🏿

As a modern day Republican (2022) this evokes feelings of pride patriotism. Wish we could go back to these days.

“The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him too’”. ❤️

Who’s watching this after reading the passage in his book “A Promised Land” 🙋🏼‍♂️

I fondly remember watching this speech with my father that night. At the end of the speech, he turned to me and said, Obama will be our next president. What a prediction!

Every few months, when I am so sad about the state of our government, I listen to a speech from President Obama, and my hope is refreshed. I started to tear up when I watched this one.
  • @asadlionish
The day Obama became president although Kerry was the nominee 😂
  • @Ireniicus
One of the greatest speeches in history.

I saved this and watched it at least once a day. I’m not even American, I’m from Singapore but it hyped me so much.

"....The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him too..." America sure did have a place for him....in the White House!

I was a Republican at the time when I watched him in 2004 and remember saying "why isn't he running?" I switched to Democrat because of him, I felt as though my eyes were finally opened. I became a state delegate for him in 2008.

I remember walking into the breakroom at work and hearing this inspirational voice. I asked my co-worker who was this charismatic, smooth dude and I will NEVER forget his response. He said "I'm watching the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!" I sat down & we watched it in silence together. When it ended, we looked at each other with the same expression 😯

...and who would have thought that 4 yrs later, he'd become President of the United States of America? This speech still gives this Canadian chills!!
