I'm surprised that ODSTs never really caught on in popular fiction or even in the Halo series post 343. The concept alone of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper is one of the coolest things I've ever heard in my life.

What I hate is that they're actively in the current stories like Rubicon Protocol and Shadows of Reach, but we just never see them in game. It really wouldn't have been hard to just add in a few ODSTs into some of the marine squads in Infinite

As a former American Paratrooper, I relate more to ODSTs in Halo more than a super soldier like the Master Chief. Just rigorous training and high expectations in performance of combat duties.

It's hard to not like the ODST, they are the best of humanity but also the underdogs so you are obliged to care for and root for them.

That live action ODST advert was amazing. ODST series like Clone Wars would be a must watch. Love your videos, great work

I find it just so heart warming how much we value ODSTs considering how Spartans are supposed to be the center of attentions. Especially in the 343i era. Also great story in the intro.

ODTS are loved because they fit the bill for a elite grizzled commando or pathfinder paratrooper unit that’s highly effective when deployed.
  • My hot take about Rakshasa armor is that rather than being yet another "budget MJOLNIR" option, it should have been the step between a normal BDU and the real power armor, designed for unaugmented personnel. Like an early attempt at giving energy shields to ODSTs. I got this idea at the start of Infinite Season 5, after seeing all the people who put the ODST helmet on Rakshasa.
  • The ODST's are by far my favorite UNSC trooper, and H3 ODST was one of my favorite shooters. It's why I always wear at the very least the ODST helmet whenever I can in a Halo game, and I hope we eventually get them in a triumphant return to the forefront in Halo games someday.

At least as far as Infinite is concerned; according to Rubicon Protocol there weren't a lot of ODSTs present on the section of ring where the game takes place to begin with, a lot of them went on higher risk missions/raids and likely didn't survive and I believe that by the end of Rubicon Protocol there might actually only be like 2 squads of ODSTs left (including "Hatriox" Squad who were causing a lot of problems for the Banished). In fact if we go by Rubicon Protocol there majority of "Marines" you recruit/help in Infinite may not even be Marines but civilian crew members using salvaged Marine equipment.

Speaking of ODSTs I often think about the fallen odsts you come across when playing through Cairo station and their efforts in defending the station.

Halo 3 odst was my introduction to the halo games. It will always have a special place in my heart

Something notable at the start of Infinite is when Chief has the Pelican's onboard AI do a perimeter scan for UNSC personnel. It shows numerous ODST tags that all said DECEASED. It's possible nearly all ODSTs from the Infinity died. Especially so if even the Spartan 4 population has been reduced.

I remember my first time playing Halo Infinite and seeing that marines with better gear were part of the unlock tree and immediately thinking, “Oh, ODSTs are going to be are near the end of the tree, probably around like the scorpion or something.” And when I looked at the full tree, all I felt was there was a missed opportunity.

I don’t like how in recent games it doesn’t feel like a humanity effort anymore in older Halos even in Halo 4 we had support from all aspects of the UNSC Navy, Air force, Army, and Marines but since Halo 5 and even in Infinite which had Marines but they didn’t really matter to the plot. they’re just non existent. I always thought this was a factor to why Spartan IVs are not really liked. They just get too much of the spot light. I miss them.

I've got a similar story during the midnight launch. I walked up to the local gamestop and stood in the rain, then ran home and played the game all night. The first time Buck said "What can I say, it was one hell of a night" hit home so hard when I had stayed up all night playing till the sun came up.
  • @DeWellstein
Since the Bungie days have gone, presence of various UNSC units has been utterly lacking. Which is sad, as fighting among your AI buddies, has always been one of the best things in Halo.
  • @amdkillaplays
Maybe we will see ODSTs being involved in the defense/recapture of the Infinity if its ever explained where she went. Fighting through an alien held city sized ship, with Roland as the AI instead of the Superintendent, letting us follow clues to unlock what happened. Sounds like a great Halo Infinite: ODST
  • @revant2138
So happy to see you talk about this, me and my halo crew all complain about this, we check every soldier in hopes of finding one but never do! Free the ODST's!!!
