CAVALERA has become synonymous with extreme metal music, a name that to this day still holds the highest regard, a family legacy built upon decades of musical aggression. In 2023, Max and Iggor Cavalera achieved what some would say was an impossible feat; they revisited their earliest releases, Morbid Visions, and Bestial Devastation, and re-recorded them with bone-breaking intensity. A risk that few would dare to even attempt, yet they artfully and prolifically attained their trademark raw sound by means that could only be described as magic or time travel.

It seems that the ball would not stop rolling as now they are entering the final chapter of their early-days trilogy. Schizophrenia is an iconic album in terms of early thrash and death metal, a household name for those of us invested in extreme metal. This was the point where the Cavaleras refined their dark, dingy, speed-influenced songs, into something a bit more mature, developed, and technical. Decades later, they have once more unlocked the asylum that is Schizophrenia, opening the doors to that banished, twisted recording which will be unleashed unto to world on June 21st, 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Max Cavalera states, "The Third World Trilogy is finally complete with Schizophrenia, Bestial Devastation, and Morbid Visions, all three Brazilian underground gems! To me, Schizophrenia is the ultimate death/ thrash experiment! I was inspired to take on the world and this recording shows my commitment is relentless! This one is for all the generations to enjoy! Play at Max volume!"

Iggor Cavalera comments, “1987 was a very progressive year for metal, with releases like CELTIC FROST Into The Pandemonium, VOIVOD Killing Technology, and BATHORY Under The Sign Of The Black Mark, so it was no surprise on how we approached Schizophrenia pushing our boundaries from a black/death metal sound to a more thrash metal aesthetics. We still had some ideas from Morbid Visions and some new songs. I’m very proud of the songwriting and even more proud of our re-recordings.”

Schizophrenia will be available digitally and in the following formats:
- CD Jewel
- Light Blue Cassette (Ltd to 500)
- Sky Blue and Black Marbled Vinyl (Ltd to 600)
- Transparent Curacao Vinyl

Schizophrenia track list:
1. From The Past Comes The Storms
2. To The Wall
3. Escape To The Void
4. Inquisition Symphony
5. Screams Behind The Shadows
6. Septic Schizo
7. The Abyss
8. R.I.P. (Rest In Pain)
9. Nightmares of Delirium (New, never before heard track)

No stranger to collaborations, the Cavalera brothers enlisted Travis Stone (PIG DESTROYER) on lead guitars, and that choice becomes obvious within the first song. The full lineup would consist of more Cavalera alumni, as Igor Amadeus Cavalera (GO AHEAD AND DIE, HEALING MAGIC) once more brought his talents on bass to the fold. Thundering and thrumming the low end with brute force, it is clear that the double Iggor and Igor combination is a rhythm section to be reckoned with.

It should come as no surprise that the CAVALERA brothers always felt that these songs deserved a fresh take with modern production. From April 15th to June 5th, 2023 the band re-recorded the album at Focusrite Room in Mesa Arizona. Mixing and mastering was handled by Arthur Rizk (SOULFLY, GO AHEAD AND DIE, TURNSTILE).

Schizophrenia’s album cover has obsessed and fascinated fans for decades. The brothers left no stone unturned and no detail unnoticed, also revisioning the original cover artwork of the album, restored in hand-painted watercolors by Eliran Kantor.

CAVALERA is:
Max Cavalera | Vocals, Guitar
Iggor Cavalera | Drums, Percussion
Igor Amadeus Cavalera | Bass
Travis Stone | Lead Guitar

Can't wait to hear "to the wall" and "inquisition symphony". This album is my youth. I'm 45 now and this makes me feel 13-14 again.
  • @chimnino

  • @erwancrespo7142
It's Fucking Death/Thrash Metal, my favorite artists Max and Igor Cavalera.
  • My favorite Sepultura album of all time now re-recorded by the great Cavalera brothers, this is a trilogy of classic albums that makes all the fans of the band's first era very happy when the real Sepultura, Max and Igor Cavalera were there, greetings from Chile. No Cavalera, no Sepultura.I must add that I saw Sepultura in 1994 with its full lineup and the truth is that a musician in any band is replaceable in some cases, but the vocalist in the case of Sepultura is never replaceable.

I love both the original lineup of Cavalera and the Andreas/Derrick led area. I simply consider them two different bands. I appreciate the Cavaleras re recording these to bring to a whole new audience.

Incredibly appreciated and needed now ! Production is great! Vocals not to far in front....giving a ghostly blackened thrash energy. Not over produced....great surprise to see! Stay strong Brazil pioneers! Redo Beneath the Remains! That's my favorite album for sure!

  • @igorciric4971
Brutal and evil, this gives me more death metal vibe , mix of Necrophagia, Death, Kreator (Pleasure To Kill), wow, amazing 🤘
  • @southwind9830
Amazing, Max sounds evil and dark, this is death metal, sounds like early Necrophagia, Possessed, Death..
  • Bestial Devastation (1985 EP), Morbid Visions (1986 LP), Schizophrenia (1987 LP), Beneath the Remains (1989 LP), Arise (1991 LP), Chaos A.D. (1993 LP), Roots (1996 LP), Blood-Rooted (1997 compilation with covers of sacred songs by sacred bands: Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath, etc): all these albums, for me, are what really, in relation to this band, I always liked and I like it so much: masterful, sacred, immortal, timeless, impressive, overwhelming, devastating, awesome band and albums: SEPULTURA with classic lineup - Max "Possessed" Cavalera: Vocals, Guitars (rhythm); Jairo "Tormentor" Guedz: Guitars (lead), Andreas Kisser: Guitars (lead); Paulo Xisto Jr.: Bass; Igor "Skullcrusher" Cavalera: Drums
