Johnson's Shut Ins State Park | INCREDIBLE Swimming Hole!

Aside from a minor injury after slipping on the jagged rocks, we LOVED our time at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park!

  • The area around the shut-ins is of great historic significance to not only Missouri history but US history as well. In Pilot Knob, about 15 miles from there, a pivotal battle was fought during the Civil War that ensured Missouri would stay a Union state. The park itself was nearly lost in 2005 when the Taum Sauk hydroelectric plant suffered a catastrophic breach and millions of gallons of water rushed down the mountain and into the Black River valley. AmerenUE was held liable and paid for the rehabilitation and improvements to the park. I hope you all enjoyed Bonne Terre Mine, part of the world famous Missouri Lead Belt for almost 100 years.

I still remember a kid from back in the 70s saying "these rocks are slick as snot!" while swimming in the Black River.
  • My family used to come here each year and swim up and then down lots of natural water slides but also kind of dangerous.
  • Looks like a lot of fun; ouch on John's leg booboo! Stay Safe, Have Fun 💌

When I was little we did a stay in Missouri vacation. And one of the places we traveled was Johnson’s shut in and I remember how cool it was. Hay if you all ever go to Virginia you really need to stop and do the Natural Bridge of VA but don’t do the wax museum or the night show those are money grabbers but the bridge is really neat. It’s just south of Interstate 64 on 81.

This place reminds me alot of Slide Rock Park in Sedona, AZ! It is a definite must go to if your in that area or anywhere near it. Also, a must check out is The Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, NM! It was freaking AWESOME!!!

I also have a little video on this place on my channel. Also been to the mine. The mine has scuba diving too. Really neat.

Have you guys been to Rocky Falls, on the Ozark Scenic Riverway?
