  • "Buys a gun, steals a car, tries to run, but he don't get far...and his mama cries..." Not much has changed in our society, generations on. "There must be peace and understanding somewhere..." Rest in peace, Elvis. ❤
  • Elvis understood the ghetto. He grew up in severe poverty in a Mississippi ghetto. As an adult he gave away cars to strangers all the time…he gave away money, he helped so many each and every year of his life. Talented, generous, loving his fellow man, he was everything.
  • Elvis himself is from the Ghetto. You should do some research on him. He has a long and unique history. This song is like him singing about himself.
  • Elvis was born very poor during the depression. He knew what it was

Elvis grew up in the Ghettos of Mississippi and Tennessee…. He never forgot where he came from . Mac Davis wrote this song …. There is a short Documentary called Elvis and the Black Community That Echo Will Never Die . You should watch that one .
  • You should watch some of the videos on his past life. He grew up very poor in a black neighborhood. That’s why rhythm and blues had a lot of influence on his music, along with gospel. When he was first heard on the radio, everyone thought he was black. And when he grew famous, there were places that didn’t want to allow his back up singers, the sweet inspirations on stage with him. He told them if they can’t go, he’s not going.

Great song. Wonderful verses. It’s still meaningful today and not much has been done. He even mentioned Chicago. His voice is so unique. 😊❤❤🎸🕺🏻🕺🏻🎤🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️

Elvis sang this song with sadness in his heart.

Elvis was born and raised in Tupelo Mississippi in the ghetto, his daddy went to prison for turning an $8 dollar check into an &18 dollar check. He loved his momma.

I grew up with every elvis song playing on the record player or radio. This is a very beautiful song. It opened alot of eyes. My mom wouldnt let us close our eyes.

My Dad passed when I was 10, but he introduced me to some incredible music/artists that I love and appreciate still today. Elvis was one of them, Patsy Cline was another. :) I usually listen to them back to back on roadtrips. :) Elvis is talented, his voice is so strong and he has a few different tones you can hear in his music. One of my favorites that showcases a few of his tones is "Surrender".

My mother was arrested at 9mths pregnant (w me😊) while marching w MLK in front of a restaurant in TN where black individuals were prohibited from dining inside. This was her second fav Elvis song, w If I Can Dream her first & Walk A Mile In My Shoes third. All 3 were played often and early in our home… not just songs, but instead mantras by which our parents raised us in a far too slowly evolving South. How incredibly blessed were we!!!!! If you’ve not seen it- the minidoc (14mins) ‘Elvis and The Black Community: That Echo Will Never Die’ is a MUST!! You’ll learn much about Elvis as a person and a performer! Stay safe & love big💖
  • Just a little trivia about Elvis. Later he started to put band-aids on his fingers that had rings on, so the fans couldn't take them off his fingers.
  • Elvis was born and raised in Tupelo Ms about 100 miles south east of Memphis Tn. Just a side note Tina Turner was from born and raised in Nutbush Tn about 50 miles northeast of Memphis.
  • I enjoyed your reaction. I highly suggest you watch Elvis and the Black Community-That Echo Will Never Die.
  • I'm so happy and proud man. Elvis grew up in the slums of Tupelo Mississippi. He speaks the truth. I grew up in old Seminole Heights Tampa. I know what he's talking about. ❤

This is one of two videos that I actually like from his Vegas years.
