How to have BETTER IDEAS

Every great creative project that’s ever been made — whether it was photography, a book, a film, a video game, an invention — have all had one key factor factor in common that makes them great, and that was their being built around a good idea. A solid and creative idea is the most fundamental aspect to any project. It’s what holds it all together.

But how to do we train our brains to think of good ideas? Let me take you through a 4-step process.

Man did I miss your videos. You really have great teaching skills.
  • It’s like when someone sees a piece of contemporary or conceptual art and say, “I could have done that!” To which the answer is, “Yes, but you didn’t”.

This video is GOLDEN, the quality that Jamie puts into his videos really shows here!

I just experienced this yesterday in the bathtub. Someone recently told me "maybe you should portrait your perfectionism instead" as a spite on me saying I wasn't happy with a picture I took - and it stuck with me. Now yesterday night, way past midnight and when I'm usually awake, it came to me that this perfectionism is hard to display, but the bits and pieces of it in our everyday life are happening every time. And then my bathtub almost flooded the the room because I filled it to the brim while thinking and that's when it struck me: "Perfectionism - all or nothing." Grabbed my camera and shot the first image of what might become a series of things that are done all the way or not at all - even if the outcome .ight be negative (like here, the water flowing over when going inside). It's gonna be interesting times from now on, because the mind is sharpened and the eyes are focused to see something that was always there but never shown in its own light.

Less is most definitely more. Many other Youtube content creators have long since ran out of ideas and are now repackaging their same old stuff over and over just to keep posting 1-2 videos a week just to stand still. It's stale and it shows. Jamie on the other hand only posts when he has something new to say and that on Youtube is so refreshing. Bravo sir!!

I'm just 7 mins into the video, and this is more valuable than almost all other videos I've ever watched on this topic. Apart from being a filmmaker, You are a scholar, sir. ( and also an AE senpai )
  • Part of me wishes you would release these more frequently Jamie. But that’s a bit selfish. Great content takes great time and effort. Thanks for another inspirational piece.

  • @kaiwan
    Thank you for making this!
  • @apocalypse487
I thought of asking strangers to pose together for pictures before, but my anxiety said no.
  • @ijustfelldown
Good God man, your videos need to be given a cinema style big screen release internationally for everyone that's a fan of visual arts. The editing, presentation and especially the use of Pacman to get your point across was amazing!
  • @karl6525
Wow. This level of profound philosophical inquiry was not what I expected.. Love it.
  • @Chris5685
You made me pick up my camera many times when I felt like “why bother, there are people out there who can do this much better than I can as a hobbyist”. Thank you, Jamie.

A student once asked the chemist Linus Pauling how he had so many good ideas. “Simple” said Pauling “have lots of ideas and throw out the bad ones”
  • @tobeasim
Jamie, I hate you ❤️. You make me watch your videos multiple times; they’re so freaking good! First, I just watch it to get an intro. Then, I watch with the sound off. Then, I watch it, er listen to it, with the picture off or not in my view. And then I watch it all over again. And after every few weeks, I could be caught watching some old video again! Thanks for all that you do, from the bottom of my heart. This is Hollywood quality work.
  • @goodphotoideas
Dude, this is brilliant. Being a guy who calls himself goodphotoideas I am humbled. I need to work harder. I'd also like to take the opportunity to compliment you on your video editing. You're a master.
  • This channel is fast become less about photography and more a sound philosophical blue print towards living a fulfilled life. I have a noted dopamine response when I receive a Youtube notification from this channel, which to me, is further evidence that, despite the theories that technology maybe driving us apart, but that many are seeking out mentors that speak truth and give advice on subjective thought, individuality, creativity and encourage a self reflective honest conversation with the self. The exact opposite of the main stream media narrative, in my humble opinion. Thanks JW
  • @Sycliste
In my opinion, you're the most clever and inspiring video creator on Youtube, your work is so precious! ! Thanks for all that effort you put in your videos, and for sharing all your wisdom and knowledge.
  • @tobeasim
No other photography related YouTube channel has better production. Just a treat to watch your videos. And this one dropped just on time.
