Seattle Supersonics' Visiting Team Intro: "Release It" (from "Graffiti Bridge") #BringBackTheSonics

Published 2023-07-29
So I recreated the song at which the Seattle Supersonics used to introduce the starting lineups for the visiting teams at Key Arena (now, the Climate Pledge Arena) during the late 1990s. The song is called “Release It” by The Time from the 1990 film “Graffiti Bridge” - the sequel to the 1984 film “Purple Rain” which features musical artists Morris Day and the late great Prince.

I hope that I was able to create something nearly identical to what the people of Seattle and sports fans around the world once heard.

Now, as I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the NBA needs to bring back the Sonics!

HOW I MADE IT:
It was a really challenging because I had to listen to both the original song and the way that the Sonics edited it for their games. When using Audacity, there was a lot of copying-and-pasting and contemplations of where every part will go and how the song would end.
IN THE VIDEO:
The video contains footage from both Game 7 of the 1996 NBA Western Conference Finals and Game 5 of the 1996 NBA Finals which players and coaches from the Utah Jazz (John Stockton, Jeff Hornacek, Felton Spencer✝️, Chris Morris, Karl Malone, and head coach Jerry Sloan✝️) and the Chicago Bulls (Michael Jordan, Toni Kukoč, Luc Longley, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and head coach Phil Jackson).

All rights to the photo and video sources belong to the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), NBC Sports, and the Seattle SuperSonics, while the rights to “Release It” belong to Morris Day and the Time and the recording companies (Warner Music Group/Warner Records Inc. and Rhino Entertainment).

Hello, i was wondering it you could help ID a song for me? It was a song played right before the jump ball and they used it during the 1994 and 1995 seasons. And also during the 1996 season too, but it was played a little bit differently with the song "You Ready For This" taking its place right at the tip off. But during the 94 and 95 seasons it was the song during the tip off
