the era of misunderstanding due to memes really hit me when I found out the woman cop that got blasted in the internet for "being a hoe" was actually being assaulted regularly by her coworkers. very much ACAB but she was a woman first and the way the world reacted was beyond wrong.

an example of decontextualization that really bothered me was the memeification of the reaction a father of a school shooting survivor had to finding out in the middle of a cnn interview that his son’s best friend had been killed in the shooting. the dad bursts into tears and covers his face with his shirt but for some reason people tried to make it seem like he was holding back a laugh??? so the clip is now used as a “funny” reaction vid. i feel so bad for him and his son :///
