Dad: Wow isn’t Rick something? Rick: Wow thanks dad!! Skip: Well is he really that guy? Seriously, In the last 2 minutes of doing his chores, he left a dirty spot on 2 plates. In all my years of covering chores, I’ve never seen anything like it.Chosen one turns into the frozen one.

I can feel Skip’s pain over not being closer with his brother. Skip is so proud of his baby brother. I hope they can bond as brothers before it’s too late.
  • Skip, it’s never too late! Your brother Rick has been my favorite chef for decades and I know nothing could bring you two together better than dinner and margaritas at his restaurant. You both did so much, you might be surprised how much of a positive influence you were!
  • @TedInATL
Unlike many "celebrity" chefs, Rick Bayless is genuinely respected, admired and liked within his industry.
  • @jrcardoso2853
“My father got up at 4am, which seems pretty late to me” the shade 😂👌
  • @ThePacemaker45
Out of all the things Skip has ever shared about himself I genuinely feel this is the saddest one. I can't imagine growing up seeing a sibling every day and not having at least somewhat of a relationship with them. Probably goes to show how dysfunctional his household was growing up.

“My dad ran off with my moms best friend “Judy” who lived down the block” put her on blast… 🤣
  • @TheSupremeXNERD
The fact that him and his brother both achieved major success in their respective fields while having almost no relationship is insane to me. Hope they mend before it’s too late.
  • @MrDaffysci
Skip and his brother Rick somehow each achieved incredible success from such a difficult childhood while not having a relationship at all
  • @bitslammer
This is how to be a human. The amount of openness and honesty is something you hardly ever see. No finger pointing, no excuses, just an honest reflection on their reality.
  • Hearing Skip say he loses no sleep over him and his brother not speaking for years speaks volumes; It makes me understand his personality much more now.
  • His brother: for me, Lebron is the undisputed GOAT. Skip: Stephen A Smith was always a brother, more than my brother has ever been to me.
  • @henryreyes83
Ive been a fan of both brothers for years. Im not going to lie im shock of hearing this. Skip, that was very brave of you openning like this about you and your brother and the things the both of and your sister (rip) has to go through. Thank you for sharing this story with everyone. May God bless the both of you.

I don't see this as sad. Not everyone in every family gets along. This is a success story, good on them for making it out of a tough childhood!
  • @ReallyGotMotion
Rick: I want to play on the swings Luan: no I want to play on the swings. Skip: Nooo!! It’s my turn!!
  • I’ve been watching Skip for years and hearing this truly put in prospective how great his career is. He went from that bunk bed, to becoming a famous newspaper writer, to covering some of the best Football teams of the 80’s and 90’s to being on the best ESPN show (rated wise) in Cold Pizza/First Take and now is on Undisputed with Shannon. He did all that with having drunks as parents and barely being at home. That’s truly impressive

Tears in the eyes..... You have made me think about so many parallels to my own life growing up in an awful environment (finding my brother after he had taken his own life when I was 16) and yet making something very special and meaningful out of my life. Mostly out of sheer determination and - I was so lucky to be borne smart. I have been a fan of your brother for years and I am now an even bigger fan of yours Mr. Bayless. May we both continue to make peace with our past and live as well as we can appreciating all of the blessings that eventually did come our way - despite growing up in $h!tholes and dysfunction... Good on you for sharing this story. I am sure your brother is also very proud of you.

I’ve been going through a very similar situation with my little brother (who’s 3 years younger than me). I’m 35 now and we don’t speak anymore because the last 15 years we had nothing in common and family issues got into the way of us having a healthy relationship. This story completely resonates with me because although we’re two very different people and never speak to one another, I miss, love, and proud of him everyday. So if you have a sibling(s), cherish them as much as you can. It hurts just writing this. Thank you though Skip for telling this story. 👍🏻
