Finally someone who’s faithful in fleas slapping position, aka the flea way 😂
  • Great playing here! I have seen a few bass covers of this song and all are slightly different with the verse slap riff. When I played it I used more muted slaps in between the obvious notes than you, in particular you made one beat an actual note where as I mostly had it muted (I was learning it by ear, obviously). I saw one cover without any muted hits at all, and only playing the clear notes. It is like there are ghost notes in there between the bass, drums and also guitar that lead different folks to pick out different hits when they learn it by ear. I just found that interesting. I really find that slap bass is extremely individualistic, in my experience it is very rare to find two slap players that sound very much alike, and when I find one that doesn't have a unique slap tone it sounds lifeless to me, like they are really trying to copy someone else's technique, instead of getting into the groove and digging into the strings with their own energy. I like to think about it this way, Victor Wooten Slap sounds different to Marcus Miller Slap which sounds different to Flea slap which sounds different to Les Claypool slap, and on and on and on, your slap sounds different than my slap, and that is a good thing.

Oh, yeah! Warwick! I speak English a little, so don't be surprised if there are mistakes in my comments
