Deep cut for you: final fantasy x-2 last mission. Steal from Founder to get the Triple Tiara which allows you to attack three times per turn. Trivializes the rest of the game.

I remember in FF8, Diabolos was one of the most important guardian forces because he could teach you Mug and he was acquired rather early. This allowed you to steal parts that were often required to upgrade your weapons.

I remember how proud I was of everything I had stolen in ffx, only to be given 99 of them at the monster arena

One thing I really liked about IX was how much of it seemed built around the fact that the protagonist being a thief. Every boss has multiple rare steals and you want to get all of them, so every battle against one would include a whole phase where the rest of the party stalls and makes sure we stay alive while Zidane just keeps trying to steal.

I think there should be a shoutout for the fact that you can steal the only available set of Genji armor from Marquis Elmdor alongside his Masamune.

Stealing sirens in the later FF4 installments to get pink tails and dragon tails for ultimate armor is a must.

Level 3 Spheres in FFX in the Khimari VS Ronsos battle. I didn't knew when i played it, so i didn't send Khimari on thief's path, but on Wakka's path... It allows to get Double Cast, and giving the other bosses of the Mount Gagazet, it will come handy !

Something I learned thanks to FF7Remake is that you can steal the Bladed Staff for Aerith from Eligor (in the Original), making her one of the most powerful physical fighters at that point in the game.
  • Once, I was a Master Tonberry. People would ask me not to knife them...I told them it would take too long to walk over there anyways, and asked them not to morph me into a ribbon.

The Rikku clickbait without any items from FFX. Classic.

"Let us fight like men, and ladies, and ladies who dress like men!" Gilgamesh. That character is gold.
  • The genji glove from dragons on the floating continent in ff3/6 was a solid steal for that early/mid of the game as well
  • I've been waiting for this video! This is an amazing topic to go over! There's so many good things you can steal from enemies throughout the series and you guys have listed quite a few great ones! If possible, could you go over the hardest items to steal at some point in the future?

I very much enjoyed the multi stage battle and subsequent thefts of the Genji Armor in FF12
  • In the original FFT, stealing both the Masamune and the Genji Set from Elmdor even after lowering his bravery to zero was such a chore, but mama didn't raise no quitter and he's always ends up in underwear :)
  • @JuliaSin
Gilgameshs rebirth appearance was by far the best. They included him in such an organic way
  • hi daryl and lauren just wanted to say i love your podcasts so so so much, even in the past year of covid and hearing how much of a struggle it must have been to keep putting them out weekly. i started listening in 2015 and would binge them at work, on transit, even in class (oops) and have so many good memories associated with the podcast that i have you to thank for! love you guys and the amazing content you have been putting out for the better part of 2 crazy decades now<3

I’m surprised the accessory Chantage from Final Fantasy Tactics was not on this list, but the Masamune was. The Chantage is able to be stolen from the battle with Meliadoul. It has Always:Reraise, which is far more powerful than the masamune. And like the masamune, which can only be obtained one other obscure way, the Chantage can also only ever be obtained by poaching a porky, which is… a very, very tedious chore.

Stealing was so incredibly important in FFIX - not just because you got some insanely good items and equipment from it, but because stealing with ANY character with the ability, not just main protagonist Zidane, powered up the tailed bandit's strongest attack, Thievery.
