  • Fun fact, you can see this animation (or one similar to it) of Makorov grabbing him in the museum level. Crazy to see it was always there behind that black screen
  • @crypticbait
Probably was meant to be a line about one of the guys being hesitant about shooting up an airport

The reason makarov did this was because in the black screen, the guy spoke in Russian. This angered Makarov, because the whole meaning of “No Russian” was literally to not speak Russian, so it’d be easier to frame the Americans. Hence why they used NATO weapons and spoke in English the whole mission. Edit: if you watch Makorav’s mouth, he actually says “remember, no Russian” earlier when he grabs him. So the guy would’ve had a line in Russian (presumably not actually recorded, or cut out to fit the final product).

For people who are wondering, Makarov did that because Kiril spoke in Russian. He also said "С нами Бог. (S nami Bog - God is with us.)".
  • From what that had shown, it was supposed to be a dialogue during elevator ride. But they had filled in the blanks in MW3.
  • 2 things 1) I’m glad to see this. During the MW2 museum you see the animation of Makarov grabbing his teammate. 2) Since the meaning of the mission is to blame the US, I like to think they covered their faces while doing the attack.

He was starting to talk in Russian Makarov grabs him and say "No Russian"
  • i think what happened is the guy spoke a bit of Russian which made Makarov grab him and he would then turn around to the player saying remember no Russian
  • It mostly was that the guy was hesitant about doing what they were about to do and Makarov was just keeping him in line by threatening him to make sure he follows.

Gotta love it when game devs left little secrets like this in the game
  • @RealRushinRussian
Makarov seems to say "Remember, no Russian" twice in this one. I assume in the earlier version of the scene that guy spoke Russian, Makarov shut him up physically and said to everyone (mainly conveying to the player) not to speak Russian. Then the devs probably realized that you don't really need to play it all out like that. Just black screen and Makarov saying this iconic line is eerie enough, and instead of showing the full hand right now after the mission you will realize "oooh that's why he said that in the beginning". So they re-timed the black screen and edited Makarov's lines but didn't bother removing the whole original animation.

My guess is they originally had more dialog (which the animations went with) that they cut for pacing. The animation starts over presumably on a cue when the screen was ORIGINALLY supposed to fade in. Instead they made the black screen longer (probably an unrelated change to give the player time to read the on screen text) and the developer just timed the animation restart so they didn't have to change the actual animation to cut out the unused bits. I would speculate the cut content was that guy tried to talk Makarov out of what they were about to do, or trying to get himself out of it. Makarov reacts by making it clear there is only one option for him at this point, and the guy backs down.

Interestingly, Makarov says "S Nami Boh", which means "God is with us", which is a hymn sung during Great Compline in the Byzantine Churches
  • @HigHrvatski
You can actually see this scene in the museum level when you beat the game.
  • @ShotgunGabe
I might be overthinking this but makarov thinkering with his M4 controls is a nice subtle detail that he's from russia and more knowledgeable with an AK.
  • @StyxDescension
His lips sorta read "remember, no Russian" so I think it was actually just a cut thing of the guy he pins against the wall saying something in Russian and then Makarov was meant to scold him for it. Weird though because he literally speaks Russian in the elevator lol, which, in theory should have cameras and microphones
  • @LuxCirilo
People saying that the terrorist who was fully armed along with the most evil man in the game suddenly became a good guy and was hesitant about what they've been planning for a long time which was the most pragmatic scheme to create a world war and they say that's what made makarov push him instead of sending him straight to heaven for his final redemption at the last moment of his violent career. The guy most likely spoke russian nerds
