Welcome to the first episode of Inspired By! A series dedicated solely to mini theories about your favorite characters and their fictional, mythological, and historical inspirations! This episode is on the youngest of the Fatui Harbingers, Childe! Everyone knows about his Commedia Del’Arte inspirations by now, so let’s mix things up a bit and instead talk about some more mythological inspirations, how those relate to his origins and what all of that has to do with Genius Invocation TCG.

Stick around to the end. I promise it’ll be worth your time.

Childe’s just the character that keeps on giving lmao. Introduced in Liuye and will be relevant all the way till Snezhnaya
  • @TarrDan
Thank you for feeding us Childe fans with such good food
  • @Sui0Generis
I've always suspected Childe's family of having Mondstadt roots like Rosalyne. His name Ajax doesn't sound like Snezhnayan like that of Andrei, Vlad, Nadia, or Etkarina. Even his brother Teucer doesn't have a Snezhnayan-sounding name. It wouldn't be a surprise to me if Genshin revealed him in the future to be an immigrant from Mondstadt.
  • That explains why Thoma and Tartaglia are so identical at first glance. They both from Mondstadt but ended up in another region.
  • @hmmmooops
Realistically speaking, there's no way the card looks like Childe for no reason. That'd be like giving two characters the same name without it being plot relevant. Also it's mentioned in the game that Ajax' father named him that to honor an ancient hero. He also only uses a bow in game because it's the only weapon he hasn't mastered yet.

It'd make sense, Eula also has strong claims to a family that ruled by nobility of deed, and strong sea related themes. lady of seafoam, her grandfather gifting her a bone whistle to emulate the sound of waves. Seas and Sea journeys (like Thoma BG) seems to be a strong part of Monstadt lore.

Yknow, one of the most strange things I've always thought about Childe's story is how he just happened to fall into a hole after being lost in a snowstorm. Like this could have happened to anyone else, why Childe? I later looked up that he was chased by bears and wolf packs, basically into the hole, and now I'm, wondering... Maybe Skirk Called him down there? Like out in the snow, you have this kid get chased by wild animals down into the abyss so his ancestors can teach him the way of combat? I think this analysis provides us with a lot more information to base our theories off of. (Skirk borrowing her ol' pal R's wolf creations to chase a child into the abyss, anyone?)
  • @lulute8
if this is true i would love see childe interactions with skirk , but also if he really is based on Cu Chulainn it means his death flags just double
  • Childe getting lots of love today with new set and new theory
  • @Ren_rz
So does that mean that Paimon and the traveler when trying to hide Childe's identity accidentally revealed his origins Instead? Completely by accident that is Paimon's imagination To those who are confused after reading this😅😅 I'm referring to the Shiki taishou event in 2.2. In the story of the event when Xinyan questions the traveler about how they know Childe, Paimon and Traveler make up a story of Childe being a "Mondstadt adventurer who is prone to danger" @Ashikai loved the video 👍👍 Would love to see more of such character analysis and inspiration analysis every once in a while if not regularly
  • @pozandrewind
I am shocked that you didn’t mention that Cu Chulainn is sometimes referred to as the “Child of Light”
  • @Elbylicious
I used to think that he uses Mondstadt books and Liyue starconches because when he came out, Mond and Liyue were the only two nations released so what else were they going to do? This theory is much more fun, though! Headcanon accepted! 😊
  • At this point, associating a character only by their hairstyle is not a stretch. The developers are amazingly good with details. They know what they're doing. It's not a coincidence.
  • @HiImYancy
Finally, someone noticed the Scathach-Skirk connection! Been playing FGO for a while and my mental image of Skirk is someone like Shishou.
  • @paulholleger8538
After Fontaine's archon quest wraps up, I'd LOVE a follow-up to this video.
  • I have never heard Scathach pronounced like that, it's normally Sca-hawk because Gaelic doesn't care how something is written, it will be spoken however it wants
  • Childe having inspirations from Cú Chulainn and Scathach, two iconic Fate Lancers, gave me so much joy as a lot of the playerbase has been saying that Childe is a Fate Archer bec of his kit 🤣 But back to Childe's connection to Parsifal, maybe bec it's common knowledge, but it wasn't mentioned in the vid that Osial, who Childe summoned in the Archon quest, is a sea monster with tentacles, so more kraken reference?
  • @zgcherri
Never thought I'd see the day that Cu Chulainn would be mentioned in a Genshin theory... he really is similar to Childe, since he abandoned his old name (Setanta) after killing a beast (it was a dog, but still). Also, as far as I remember, he used a hurley to kill the dog, maybe Ajax used something similar to kill an abyss monster?
  • @MoonlitReload
I used to not like Childe much, but my appreciation of his character and potential allusions and inspirations have grown tenfold now! Thank you, as usual, for the delicious food of thought.
