Ashed Tinder, Rudiger Roll, and Grip for the Hand Drill... Ashed Tinder- I decided to use Jute this time because it's been a long time since I've worked with it. I took about 2 feet of it, saturated it with ashes, did a quick solar ignition with the wallet Fresnel Lens, and used it as the coal to ignite my Pine Needles Tinder Bundle. Lot's of Ashed tinder info along the way.
2) Then our friend the Rudiger Roll. I broke down about a foot of Jute into fiber and explained and demonstrated the technique.
3) Lastly, Hand Drill Grippage... hands coated with wood ashes. I think they provide about 3 times more grip than spit alone. LOL!!! It took me 3 sets and about 8 tries to finally get an ember on this very humid day. I only show the highlights not all the fails.
Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!

David, when you touched the fire roll to itself the transfer was immediate. That was remarkable. Ashes rule. Another learning video. Thanks.................

David you made me feel better. This weekend we did a Frontiersman Lock in and I showed them the Rugerroll and the boys did great with it. I tried 15 bow drill sets and none could get a fire going. I stopped when I got smoke and handed it off to the next guy that wanted tto try it. It's tough. Thanks for your great videos. Mark Jones (the Royal Rangers have heard your name)

Hi David, over in the UK I'm trying to go from nothing to making an iron knife, 100% natural, copying people like the Primitive Technology guy. Luckily I have all the local resources necessary to do so, but none of it can happen without fire. So I practice mullein hand drill every day to keep my hands hardened up, but perhaps only acheive an ember 10% of the time, of course when I really need one, it takes hours, when I don't, a few minutes. It can get disheartening, not understanding the many factors involved and which one isn't quite right. It's a pleasure to come inside with frustrated mind and burning hands and watch your videos, always a boost when I need one. Thanks for your efforts in explaining as much as can be explained. Richard
