It's a relief to know this song helped saved James dad's life. A relative saw the song and donated his kidney.

James father had donated a kidney in the past so he only had one kidney. His father had a rare blood type and they where having no luck finding a match for him. There is good news though. After the video was released his father found a donor match and he is alive today... Miracles do happen! πŸ™πŸ€ πŸŒ΅πŸŒ΅πŸŒ΅πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

Good news a distant cousin came forward and it was a kidney match for his dad . He survived .πŸ™ŒπŸ»

James and his father were both officers in the British military, and despite being very close, were never overtly emotional with each other, and when this amazing video was made, James's father had only recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease, so this video ( done in one take) was a very tough one for James to complete, and we can see the slight wavering of his voice on occasion. He refused to use 'Auto Tune' because he wanted everything to be 100% real and genuine. I heard he donated every penny of his royalties of this song to the brilliant UK charity' Help For Heroes' who do so much great work for ex-servicemen & women, which was a lovely thing to do. God bless him. ❀ πŸ‘ πŸ™‹β€β™‚

That part "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye" was terrible. i'm already in tears

I lost my wife of 37 years in July to vascular dementia. Watching her decline over her last 3 years didn't make it any easier for me. I was holding her hand and watched her take her last breath. I got to say goodbye.
  • james blunt is such a misunderstood artist and should be so much more recognized. Youre beautiful is a great one too

It's honestly the phrase "It's my turn, to chase the monsters away" that get's me. Like a full circle of life moment, where your dad looks after you, scaring the monsters away under your bed. To the sad realisation that your dying father is probably terrified of the darkness, the unknown... the monsters. And it's your turn to make him feel secutre, and chase the monsters away.

My mom lasted a long time after a stroke, 11 years actually and she passed in her sleep in 2015. Towards the end she needed help walking, standing and eating. One day I was helping her back into bed. I picked her up (she was about 80 lbs. at this point) and asked if she wanted to dance. She chuckled a little and weakly said "We can dance tomorrow". I laid her down and covered her with her blanket, told her I love you and she said it back. Those were her last words to me. I cry more telling that story than I did when she passed. I knew it was coming to that and I was just so relieved that she was no longer in any pain and struggling every day just to see tomorrow. She was a very proud woman and I know she felt ashamed for needing the help to do things that she used to do herself. I always reassured her that it was my turn to take care of her. I don't wish upon anyone to watch their parents slowly pass BUT it was the biggest honor in my life to help her when she needed it the most. Love your parents and love each other. Tell them you love them.

Talking about passed loved ones; my Nan never forgot who I was, even though she forgot others in our family, my Nan never forgot who I was! ❀

Burch - Don't Ever be Sorry for showing your True Emotions. You are a real, genuine good Man. πŸ‘ŠπŸ’›πŸ‘

Don't ever apologise for showing your emotions. It's good to talk and remember

None of the direct family were compatible for a transplant, but, with the popularity of this song & the publicity of this song brought an unexpected twist when a distant cousin (Charles Blount) the same name as James Blunt's Father, came forward & was a compatible match for Charles & he is now living comfortably at home with his wife (James Mum). Also, after the recording of this video, Almost all the crew were in tears & sobbing. In his typical English Stiff Upper Lip attitude, Charlies said, why all the tears, I'm still here. Haha
