That's what I call a classic Viewer Mail segment. Dave, you and your staff members know how to make a great show. Thanks!

someone inexplicably holding up a poster of Frank Zappa @6:17 lol

Did something go wrong in the bit where Paul was supposed to be splashed in the face with the iced coffee? They seemed to be building up to the big payoff then the camera cut to Paul with a very (real) confused face, and then the audience member rushed in with the new pants and inappropriately sat at home base. After that, they seemed to just drop the bit and move on. I loved the rough edges of the old shows when strange stuff like this happened and made you wonder "what the hell is going on?"

This what I miss…the zany antics. No one did it like Dave. The cereal bowl, the Velcro suit, these were my favorites! Thank you for the great memories, Dave!

6:17 Finally! We're finally rid of that Bernstein guy. He's constantly been bugging everyone at NBC at least since Bill Wendell arrived from the DuMont network in the mid-1950s. I was beginning to think he'd never stop.😁
  • From 41 years ago, a now supremely rare reference to Sandy Becker whose memory is gradually vanishing with time, along with his posse of characters such as Norton Nork, Hambone, and the Professor.

I hope to god Jack Bernstein sees this. As others have said, Classic Viewer Mail.

LOL next Barbara Gaines episode, she should hand Dave another letter from Bernstein

Love these early episodes when they were figuring things out, trying crazy bits, and things would go wrong in wonderful ways. Felt more intimate and seat-of-your-pants in those days.

I got my colors mixed up and thought Dave was getting deported.

Remember when late night shows were solely focused on being funny and entertaining?.... Those were the days.
