First up is your “Don’t be that guy” segment…
A video was posted this week of a drone pilot flying over the Blue Angels near Pensacola Beach, FL.
The drone appeared to be in the flight path of the jets, though slightly higher.
The footage has since been deleted off of social media.
Please do not be that guy and do not interfere with other air traffic.
We’ll keep you updated as we see how this story progresses.
Next up, the FAA finally released a FRIA map!
This new interactive map functions similarly to the UAS Facilities map, but displays FRIAs instead of airspace!
The map includes information about each FRIA including the site name, Affiliated CBO, approval & expiration date, and address.
This is a great site along with FRIAmap.com for recreational flyers to find FRIAs!
Last up, a burglary suspect was taken into custody after a drone observed them breaking into multiple vehicles.
A DFR drone returning from a mission was used to survey a parking lot at a busy area when the operator noted a man acting suspiciously.
After watching the man for a short time, the police operator observed the man use a screw driver to break into a vehicle, where he spent several minutes before breaking into another vehicle.
Police units responded and were directed to the vehicle the man was in, where he was arrested.
This is an interesting, secondary use of a DFR drone.

Although the Presidio in San Francisco is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, there were parts where NPS allowed drones. Within the past few weeks NPS reversed that policy making it illegal to fly drones anywhere in GGNRA where our drone club used to have meetups. Now drones are prohibited entirely over land or water from Crissy Field west to the shoreline and southward down to below Pacifica.

I was in Yellowstone National this week, here for 5 months, and the park rangers were searching for a drone pilot that was up for the 2nd time taking video of a grizzly bear! They were not happy! I hope they post it and catch them! Multiple violations!

Wisconsin Cheese Curds are the Best! Make sure you refrigerate them properly. keep them cold - not frozen from the time you purchase them and on your entire journey back. Some of the local curds don't have preservatives. btw I was born in WI, and live close to you in East Mesa. Safe Travels buddy!

Just found the blue angels clip. That video was not taken during the air show and there was not a TFR in effect. This was one of their regular Sunday homecoming passes down the beach. Still a really bad idea to be that close, but not a TFR violation and not during an air show.

Safe flight to Oshkosh. Have flown in many times. I was going to take my dad again this year, but he went West on Tuesday.

Was there a TFR during the blue angels event and if so how was a drone able to fly? I can’t turn on the motors of my drone during a TFR.
