Today I have some help on the farm! My daughters, Trudy & Abby came to help with hauling round bales. We are using both teams of draft horses today, Abby is driving Ken and Buck and Trudy is driving Bill and Lady.

Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

I was born 87 years ago and raised on a farm in Illinois. My Dad farmed with horses for years. I owned a team of Ponies and used them for pulling contests. So I enjoyed watching your horse pullings. I am amazed at the hard work you people do. Your way of life brings back a lot of great memories. Thank you for giving this old man something to look forward too.

This is how I grew up on the farm 77 years ago. We logged, brought in the hay, and everything with Horses. Your videos sure take me back to the good old days! Thanks!

Working with horses was good for the soul. It was a time when we worked with nature . I remember it well .
  • Here in North Wales UK you show us the beauty of horses we have lost in farming. So amazing !
  • It was nice to see the whole family pitching in to help bring in the hay. Such a beautiful day to all be together. It does the heart good, to help one another.

My father has just turned 84. He shared this video in our family app. He remembered that his oldest brother also put the horse not straight for the cart when It was an extremily heavy load, because only 2 wheels have to be moved instead of four initialy. That got the job done and got the cart moving. So this brought back memories for him. Greetings from the Netherlands.
  • That is hard work, it looks like the girls are just sitting there, but you work every muscle in your body! An all day work out! Back, abs, arms, legs!!

Great job Abby and Trudy hauling bales with the horses 🐴
  • That was such a nice thing, that your kids know how to help and everyone pitched in.
  • Shed a few happy tears..I wish I had a husband sometimes, one that loved that kind of life. I've had my farm for all my life and I've never had a man by side to share the farm life with... Sometimes I feel really sad about that, especially when I see a family unit as special as yours is.. What beautiful country life you all share together. It's a wonderful sight to behold. Love from East Texas, Annette!

Its nice to have family helping out, My Mom grew up on a farm in Puerto Rico , We moved in a house adjacent to our Grandparents and we had to help our grandparents with farm chores . When moved to Va my father had us help the local farmers during harvest time,, We got to know them and they got to know us. Plus they feed us great .

Good to see the family operation.. I enjoy seeing the girls handling the horses.. We had one horse that we used in the woods.. Molly was her name. Dad cried when she got old and had to leave the farm..

Does not get any better, family and two magnificent teams of horses. The superb condition of all the horses is such a pleasure.
  • Beautiful horses, beautiful farm, beautiful summer day, beautiful girls...... what's not to like? Being and speaking as an old farmer, retired, who caught the very tail end of the horse and mule era as a child, because my grand parents kept the horses and mules for old times sake, and worked them a few days a year....... after switching to tractors and trucks even before I was born......... Well, the thing not to like is that you have to care for horses, feed them, check on them, EVERY SINGLE DAY of the year. When you don't need the tractor, you park it in the shed, and don't have to feed it with diesel or gasoline again until you need it again..... maybe weeks and sometimes even months later. And you can work the tractor twenty two hours a day......... day after day............ with two hours set aside for maintenance work..... assuming you have two beautiful girls to take turns running it, lol.

We had a pair "Buck" and "Bubbles" that hauled our stooked hay and hand tossed bales. We logged with them but not commercially, but for logs for hunting cabins, lumber, and firewood. They were turned into retirement with free run of the farm in their late 20's enjoying life with no more harness and all the care from their human family.

When I was a little kid horses, wagons and pitchforks were in use, as well as many helping hands. Then came the tractors and bailers. We got to take turns driving the tractor which gave us a break from throwing bales onto the wagon. I always liked the horses better than the tractors as they were more like us. Even sweated like us, and glad to finish at the end of the day.
