Originally released in 5 parts in 2021, I present to you now the COMPLETE speculative evolution iceberg!

This was one of the first series I began, and I learned a lot and had a ton of fun making it. The channel has changed a lot since these were posted, but the stuff it covers is still as interesting as ever. Thanks for watching!

Hello everyone! I though a single video might make the iceberg a bit easier to digest--especially without all the intros/outros of each part. Also, here are some links to videos I've since created on many of the subjects discussed. Thanks for watching! - World of Kong: Skull Island: https://youtu.be/gBagU9CVZ00 - The Snout Walkers (Rhinogradentia): https://youtu.be/9PWBWOZZbiA - Snaiad: https://youtu.be/7PvnzL6_X1Q - Mermaids: Lore and Legend: https://youtu.be/e4n0yFMUM5g - Dragon Biology: https://youtu.be/xwyx1sEnNQ0 - The Future is Wild: https://youtu.be/fk2g8EtMV5U - Cryptozoologicon: https://youtu.be/eso8rzG3HvI - All Other Tomorrows: https://youtu.be/mEPI2FNi4nA - Flying Rods (Cryptids): https://youtu.be/zXk_flgU42g
  • I had an astrobiology professor once and one of her lectures covered the possibility that a dragon could exist as a silicon based life form that breathes a different chemical makeup of gasses and exhales the byproduct of that which, in an oxygen rich environment would produce fire. It was a fun class 🤙
  • i’ve always been fascinated by sci-fi biology, and conceptualizing alien biology. one time i went down a rabbit hole of “can a creature live with blue blood” what i ended up finding out was: -blue blood is based off of copper (unlike our iron based blood) -horseshoe crabs have blue blood -it delivers oxygen much slower, unless you are at extreme depths/have a lot of pressure above you, in which case it becomes more effective than human blood
  • @cmkosemen
Heyy thank you so much for featuring me as an entry! I'm blushing - such an honour! :D
  • This niche has always pulled me in deep. I've grown up making up alt-biological creatures with back stories and kinda fell out of it in my mid to late 20s as I focused on my career. Now, disabled and sitting in my home all day long, spending time with my two kids, my oldest daughter has taken my artistic talent to the nth degree and I've gotten back into this subject with her and through her mind and eyes. I constantly encourage her to follow her creative talents and we talk all the time about the how, why & where her art exists and it is so fun. She enjoys watching these with me and hopefully these channels continue

man, as a person with misophonia, who often stumbles upon videos that are exactly what i’m looking for content-wise but unlistenable due to weird or annoying voices, this video is perfect. bro ur voice is so soft n nice and ur talking abt one of my favorite subjects, this video is music to my brain and ears. i thank you for this brother 🙏🏾
  • That late entry near the very bottom, that all "Spec Evo Projects are Personalized" is a reference to "Every Copy of Super Mario 64 is Personalized" which was a deep tier entry on the Super Mario 64 Iceberg, the original one that started the iceberg trend. The idea was that a personalization AI was embedded into Super Mario 64 that made everyone's play experiences unique from each other so if you ever felt like a friend's copy of Super Mario 64 wasn't the same as your copy, that was the explanation. Other stories say there was going to be a personalization AI but it was removed with the reasons being anywhere from the believable explanation of it being too advanced for the hardware at the time to creepypasta levels of gigantalope shittery. So saying every Spec Evo project is personalized, was indeed, a tongue-in-cheek joke entry.

This dude’s voice is so calming, I’m listening to him while sick at home and I accidentally fell asleep because of how calming his voice is <3
  • I really liked how when you talk you don't make it sound like you're just reading off a script. You take pauses and it just sounds like a real conversation. I really enjoyed this video
  • Star Trek actually explaines many of the humanoid people in the galaxy by a common ancestor civilisation that spread thier genenetic code in the universe because they developed as the first spacefareing species in the galaxy and as they realised that they were alone they decided to populate the galaxy but with life that would be indipendently developed. If i remember right it was in a double episode in season 6 of STNG but i#m not 100% sure about that.
  • Ben Ten is a really popular, and mainstream speculative biology and world building universe that I've never heard anyone bring up as such. They had so many galaxies, different kinds of worlds, kinds of aliens, different techs, different space travel methods, they even have their own race of people made of pure energy which Gwen is part of. They explained all the times about the homeworlds of the aliens he became too! I also remember the episode when Ben was showing this alien a bunch of transformations, and him mentioning which ones he knew had their planets destroyed and we're now refugees which was so sad. Professor Paradox, and his assistant with their failed time travel experiment was my favorite things to ever happen in the show, it's such a cool concept! Even the Omnitrix is a fascinating piece of technology that pretty much evolves, and devolves you into every alien every collected in it's database, that's WILD! There are so many great things about all those shows, and a great way I feel like to get kids and even teens with the later series to dip their toes in to the subject of speculative biology.
  • @skarut1485
had I ever even heard of speculative biology before? nope. did I click because it sounded cool and then end up getting super absorbed and binging almost all of your videos? yes. yes I did
  • What an absolute treat of a video. The content alone was wonderful, but your deadpan sense of humor had me cracking up. Definitely brightened up my day and made my knitting session all the more pleasant. Looking forward to that Future Is Wild video and anything else you have in store for us this year!
  • @Marscandy1
I read a very old sci-fi novel called Star Maker. It had a really great passage about an alien race that evolved with sound and taste being their predominant senses, instead of sight and feeling. I loved how the author explained how their culture developed because of this.
  • The Monster Hunter games are a really cool source of interesting speculative zoology, definitely worth looking up the wiki and reading about some of the monsters
  • @lexter8379
I had astrobiology in university. One of the best classes! We talked about extremophills, about different chemistry that would allow life, where could we find life in our solar system, what do we know about exoplanets, and we did a lot of alternative evolution. Even mentioned scifi ideas.
  • @OXP1-4
I got introduced to this channel through the first episode of this, been a fan ever since
  • This is one of the coolest videos I’ve ever watched in my life, you brought up so many books and movies/shows I never would have remembered otherwise, seeing the arrowtongue shot me back to elementary school
  • @PaleoAnalysis
I can't wait to do a supercut for my History of the Earth series. I think I'm going to try to have that done by the end of the year. Love your stuff Thought Potato! ❤️ I will enjoy giving your spec Evo iceberg another watch! 👀
  • @Sivanot
Im only 15 minutes in, but I figured id answer the star trek "all aliens are just people" thing, even though im not someone who's watched a lot of star trek myself lol. But If im not mistaken, I remember hearing in other videos that so many aliens in star trek look like humans because they all share some kind of origin. Like some universal scale panspermia. I also think that Doctor Who shares a similar concept, in that Time Lords (Gallireyans, but it was Time Lords who did the thing) dont look like humans, Humans look like Time Lords. When Time Lords solidified the universe from a massively chaotic state they left some kind of imprint on reality for the shape of future species, though not all follow it of course. I could be wrong about both of these but im fairly certain Ive heard or read that in different places for Star Trek lol.
