Videoing In National Parks - An Update

Sounds like they forgot that the parks belong to us, not them.

This is a ridiculous law. As is the case more and more in our country, we're losing our freedoms.

How can they claim a ''view' is government property. It takes away nothing, it harms nothing, it leaves nothing.

The government is out of control

I just checked out the NPS gov website, you do need a permit for any commercial video but on the Q&A What fees will I pay section it states 1–2 people, camera & tripod only - $0/day. Pack light and the permit is free.

I agree that the government is out of control and grubby money grubbing fingers. That’s a shame.

Need to get someone like David Paulides appointed in the National Parks commission he has been fighting this for 3 decades.

If you are given verbal permission always get the person's name and station. An affirmative defense is called "Entrapment by estoppel." From the DoJ Archives: "The last of the possible government authority defenses is "entrapment by estoppel," which is somewhat similar to public authority. In the defense of public authority, it is the defendant whose mistake leads to the commission of the crime; with "entrapment by estoppel," a government official commits an error and, in reliance thereon, the defendant thereby violates the law."

It's a darn shame! Hope the law changes soon! These land are supposed to be preserved for our enjoyment and we can't even post a video of them...not right at all. Thanks for the video and update! Much appreciated!

I follow your channel because of all the cool and hidden gems you explore outside the NPS. We all know how beautiful Yellowstone, Glacier, Zion, and the Grand Canyon are. You and Linda show us the fun we can have in the ghost towns, state parks, and forests. Also lets not forget where to find the best pie in every small town inthe western US. (It would be a great service to all of us weary travelers if you would keep a pie map for your loyal fans)

"We the People" who want to preserve our freedoms, vote accordingly...

Guess a lot of us will be avoiding the parks and just going where you don't have to worry about someone looking over your shoulder. Wouldn't want to get accused to taking a picture and have it show up on FB and get stuck in a legal SNAFU.. best to just go around the place and forget it.

Thanks for posting this video. It seems this is in the foreground again! It needs to be! Dave and I were just talking the other day that it didn’t matter if you got verbal permission…. You better get it in writing!

It's just down right sad how Money Hungry our country has become. We went to Estes Park, CO for over 20yrs and really enjoyed it. But now that you are required to have "reservations" to get in........that has taken the "fun and adventure" out of the place. We now travel in our Travel trailer and go to the "forgotten" places that you and Linda visit. .........Safe Travels, where ever they shall lead you.

Taking some photos or video on a family outing or for a small youtube channel seems like such an innocous thing. Such a shame that it's illegal. Definite government overreach in my opinion. In any case; Thanks for the head's up and be safe.
