A featured guest saying "I don't wanna hog this whole thing" is the MOST bass player thing ever

Leland's generosity with his time and feedback is just priceless. He's a musical treasure and his genuine humility is so endearing. Thank you Leland ❤

Leland Sklar is the Betty White of the musical world. What an incredible human being, to do this. The stories are incredibly priceless...just like the man. And I'm a drummer. I could watch this guy tell stories for hours...or days.
  • Lee is a friend of mine. I asked him to perform on one of my songs. I had my money in hand to pay his regular fee. He turned me down. Wouldn't take my money. He said "If you want to waste your money, I'll take it, but the part you wrote fits the song perfectly." I saved $400, and he also said I could use his name if I wanted. He also said he wouldn't be ashamed to be associated with my work, and I could credit him if I wanted to. A wonderful guy.
  • The best thing to come out of this pandemic is Lee Sklars YouTube Channel.
  • I am 72 years old and i have watched this man play bass forever and with so many different bands...never knew his name. Just knew he must be the best out there.
  • Lee is a bassist who has recorded with everyone ( just about), He is so valuable to the entire community! And Vaughn Williams record be alludes to, is amazing! Love you, Lee!

Lee is an American treasure. I am so happy for his new social media venture and success over the last couple years. We are so lucky he is so willing to share both through his own outlets and through other channels. Thank you for having him!
  • "Serve the song" is the most important thing that was said in this video.

Your Smiling Face was the song that introduced me to Leland Sklar. Six years later, he was playing on my brother's recording project in a small, unknown recording studio in Hayward, CA. Lee was (and is) one of the most encouraging musicians I have ever had the pleasure to know. He even let me play his bass!! That was 38 years ago! I was 20. Great interview! Thanks!

Being a bass player that only plays for my own enjoyment I was so happy to hear him say have fun. This is a way to express things that you might not be able to articulate. It's an outlet. It's art. Maybe you sell it and maybe you don't but you can always retreat to it when you need it.

  • 💕 I love how accessible these videos are for all levels from noob to pro.
  • I have been a musician for over 40 years and I have never heard of this legend.. I feel ashamed…you can bet that I won’t forget his name now! Thank you sir for all the music!!
  • @Huey2ie
Great video! Leland Sklar is perhaps my favorite bassist of all time. His sound has contributed to some of the greatest timeless classics.

After the Frankenstein talk, you could almost start a secondary series just talking to musicians about stories behind their instruments. Also, desert island album is Rumours

I would very happily listen hours and hours of this conversation - absolutely fascinating. I always learn so much from these videos both as a musician and as a fan of these records.
  • @timsmith7899
What's amazing about great musicians is they are all so humble. Music is the best thing ever, it brings joy and a fantastic bond.
  • @Califokie12
“Mexico”….that bass line. Damn. Sklar’s contributions to popular music are just inestimable. Can’t imagine any of those old tunes without him.
