With Disney Channel stars' music careers being tightly gripped by Disney-owned record label, Hollywood Records, it relatively seems that Nickelodeon had a lot less control. Most of their stars signed with record labels outside of the Nickelodeon bubble, meaning Nickelodeon lots out on millions. However, it is not as simple as it seems.

  • Nickelodeon FUMBLED the bag by not signing Ariana but we really DODGED a bullet there😭
  • @zoey1925
they FUMBLED SO HARD with Keke Palmer!!!! Side note, Rags was so good! 😭

If Ariana Grande did sign with Nickelodeon, I don’t think her career would be where it is now to be honest. I think it was smart to sign with a label not associated with the network

BTR is a fascinating band to me. They were made to compete with the Jonas Brothers and we're based off the Monkees, with them originally hiring the band mates as actors instead of musicians. They had a successful show, lasting 4 seasons and a TV movie, and sold thousands to millions of copies of their music. I think the biggest mistake that Nick made with the band is not really advertising them as a band, but rather their show. As a kid, I had no idea that BTR was an actual band and not just a TV show. BTR has made a comeback now, and it's for the best. They're releasing new music under their own label (buying back the rights to all their original music) and had a huge tour last summer. They sold out Madison Square Garden, meaning they have such a determined and loyal fan base even 10 years later. I give hope to the guys and that they keep releasing new music and selling out tours. I believe we all need to live it Big Time once again.

big time rush is such a great group, i wish people didn’t see them as only a nickelodeon band because they were actually a real band. i saw them in august and it was honestly one of the best concerts i’ve ever been to! they deserve the same success as one direction and 5sos
  • I hated the trend where people were undermining Victoria justice talent just because someone else has a “bigger” voice.
  • Let’s not forget Ariana Grande released Put Your Hearts Up. 🙂 With a video that was very similar to Selena’s Who Says video. Fortunately for her, she overcame it with The Way (a really GREAT song)!

I loved Miranda Cosgrove’s music tbh. I still listen to Kissin U, Dancing crazy, and daydream from time to time

17:10 they did Cymphonique sooooo dirty. “How To Rock” was a GREAT show with AMAZING music but they never put out an album for the show!!! Then the show got cancelled after 1 season! I just can’t with Nickelodeon

I’m glad Ari didn’t sign with Nick cause they always over looked her🙄 and (I believe another record label missed their chance and looked over her but I forgot the name) so she got signed with RR in 2011 everything happens for a reason cause look at the queen now🥺
  • Keke started out on Disney . Her music videos were shown on Disney channel and she had that movie with Corbin Bleu.

Thank you for bringing up "UnFabulous". Everyone forgets about that show. To a five year old it was the bomb! Early shows and movies during the early 2000's is what paved the way for shows like Hannah Montana and Victorious.
  • I absolutely agree that Nickelodeon fumbled the bag! I just wanted to point out how much potential Nickelodeon had for these actors/singers. Spectacular is a really good movie when it comes to music. Nolan Gerard Funk had such a great voice and good music in that movie. Break my heart, Everything can change, and your own way. (Fun Fact) Nolan is in Miranda Cosgrove Music Video for Stay My Baby. Rags is another great Nickelodeon movie when it comes to music. I will never get that one amazing song out of my head “Put your heart in it You can go the distance Me and You against the world” Max Schneider and Keke Palmer Killed It! Drake bell is another one that had so much potential for making more music for Nickelodeon. I remember always loving his music on Drake & Josh, iCarly, and Zoey 101. Down we fall, I found a way, Hollywood girl, Makes me happy (Drake & Josh) Leave it all to me (iCARLY) and High way to nowhere (Zoey 101) In my opinion If Nickelodeon was actually down to commit to making more music and signing them to Sony Labels with these actors, I think the Top actors that would of made more money for Nick when it comes to music would be Drake Bell, Nolan Gerard Funk, Ariana Grande, Elizabeth Gillies, Miranda Cosgrove, Max Schneider, and Keke Palmer. Who knows it would of probably beat Disney music *In another Universe*😭
  • Max Schneider from How To Rock had a lot of music out . Saw him live too. He was fun . Think Fall Out Boy signed him to their label

You forgot about the first Nickelodeon music entity, the short-lived show "Taina" from the early 2000s. Christina Vidal, the show's star, signed with MCA records, which Nickelodeon execs didn't like because it was a "conflict of interest" for them. I assume they didnt like not making any money off of her. Not only that, her lawyer threatened the network with a lawsuit because they were abusing the child labor laws with her. Both situations caused Nickelodeon not to renew the show for a season 3 despite good ratings. Ironically, Romeo guest starred on the last episode, and Nick then gave him his own show.

Take a shot everytime he says "fumbling the bag" xD

I don’t think that Ariana necessarily wanted to be signed with Nickelodeon. Based on what we know about Dan Scheinder, if she had played more into his game she could’ve done a lot more. However, she comes from a family with money and connections, she just needed that initial platform that her role with Cat allowed her to have in order to fully break into the industry. Once she had that (and she arguably had the most popular character of the show), then she didn’t need to have an album with Nickelodeon. It always seemed as if she just did just enough to stay relevant, but not too much because she knew she had better chances to do the music she actually wanted to do.
  • BTR was to compete with the Jonas Brothers ' tv show which was based off The Monkees. BTR was of course way more similar to The Monkees. 1D was formed two years later on XFUK
  • I saw Miranda in concert twice She doesn't have the greatest voice but she was fun . She seems like such a great person from what I've heard .
