"Help, my husband has cancer!" "Sorry, it looks like your husband doesn't have enough followers on tiktok. I am afraid we're going to have to leave him to die"

"This person accidentally bumped into me, imma give them a low rating" wtf would the world be if it was like that
  • This was rather a reflection of this life. This so-called “socially acceptable behaviours” are something that I still need to learn. Bc I am a free spirit after all lol

To everyone saying "OMG this is just like social media in real life now!" What do you think this story was in response to?
  • @thunda6200
If that rating system actually became a real thing, suicide rates would shoot up

"each individual gives a rating to one another based on their interactions" Me, an introvert: *chuckles I'm in danger*
  • The spooky thing is how close to reality this actually is, especially for the newer generations (I'm only 21 but I still grew up without social media for the most part) who grow up completely in the world of social media and influencers. It's already becoming a newer issue in the mental health industry where teens believe their worth is determined by their status on social media. They do everything they can to get likes and followers even known the followers might as well be strangers and the likes are meaningless.
  • The episode is depicting one aspect of humanity in the most exaggerated way. Good for us that Humanity is not based on one concept,is not narrow and is not perfectly uniform and organised, the diversity of universe and humanity is what keeps the life forms and humans excited about being alive and exploring more...

Damn, a world where your life revolves around a star

This movie perfectly describes how society wants us to be at all times. However, we shouldn't sacrifice our real selves just to fit in.

I relate to this through Lyft. I'm sure drivers who see passengers below a 4.5 are probably like what did you do to get that rating.
  • @alara5977
Well, kids today would judge people they see online based on the amount of their social media followers and that's a few steps closer to becoming this story
  • @Laqoons
Imagine getting canceled in real life, the same way you would online 😂

At this point can you just recap every black mirror episode? They seem very interesting, unique concepts almost in every episode.
  • This is literally a movie on that one gumball episode where everyone can give ratings to one another and then everybody just stops moving so they can't get low ratings

We're half way there already. "Influencers" are the rock stars of yesterday and they curate their lives as being perfect. Uploading 2 videos a day while also managing twitter, IF, and FB? No matter where I go people are plastered to their phones rather then chatting with one another. As an older person without a cell phone it's very disheartening to see people worry more about how strangers think of them then their own families.
  • I think the meaning of this episode is how people need to fake their personality on social media to get a following how if you suddenly become controversial then you can't interact with your so called influencer friends because you'd bring them down with you. And how everyone has to have the exact same opinion otherwise people will hate them.

The fact this isn’t even far off from real life speaks for itself

Ughhh the happiness at the reactions and validations pouring in... its been a minute since I've seen this episode and I want to gag at how relatable that emotion is. Live a life worth living, the right people will follow and take part in it.
