Tony Yazbeck and Michael Berresse perform "Nowadays / Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago

The 2014 edition of Broadway Backwards featured Michael Berresse and Tony Yazbeck stopping the show with the classic "Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag" from Kander and Ebb's long-running Chicago.

Broadway Backwards, the annual Broadway extravaganza celebrating the LGBTQ+ community through the great songs of musical theater, returns to Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre on Monday, March 13, 2023. The beloved evening and its star-studded cast will embrace love and self-expression in true Broadway fashion.

Broadway Backwards, the only annual Broadway event uniquely created for the gay and lesbian community, our friends and families, supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York. Each year, the show features a star-studded cast and live orchestra performing the great songs of musical theatre with a twist: women sing songs originally written for men and men sing songs written for women.

Broadway Backwards creator Robert Bartley wrote and directed this year’s show. Mary-Mitchell Campbell served as music supervisor with Tim Rosser as music director. The creative team included additional choreography by Bartley, Amy Jones, Melissa Rae Mahon and Reed Kelly, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, costume designer Philip Heckman and sound designer Pitsch Karrer. The production stage manager was Peter Lawrence.

I love how you can see exactly how much they’re loving this, they’re clearly having a blast
  • By far the most faithful, energetic, merry and sexy tribute to Fosse's genius I've ever seen.

This is incredible. And Michael doing a cartwheel at 50—amazing. Something about this is so engaging.

Never saw this performed by two guys before. Loved it!!!

Tony Yazbeck is my favorite Broadway leading man and should be far better known by the general public!
  • @Alanb1980
It makes me wish I had been there to see it in person. It also makes me wish I were a Broadway actor so that I could learn that choreography and perform that number on a stage in front of an audience.
  • I always find myself smiling whenever I watch anyone do this number but these guys are exceptional. I watch it every day.

It's unhealthy the amount of times I've watched this😂 I love how while they're both having a blast, Mike is especially having WAY too much fun. Bravo, bravo🍯🍯🍯🕺🕺🕺
  • This is so fun, probably one of my new favorite performances of Nowadays! Also, Michael Berresse looks like a combo of Nathan Lane & Raul Esparza & I think I adore him.

Two of Broadway's greatest and finest. Berresse I remember seeing in Damn Yankees some years ago,Chicago and Kiss Me Kate  and always standing out like the star he is and Yazbeck is simply sublime in every department. See him in On The Town where he dazzles with his singing and dancing.
  • I love this video, it gives me a lot of joy and I can watch it over and over and over again.

1:13 Beresse sang Mike instead of Ike. 2:24 He acknowledged his mistake with a head tilt and chuckle. Of course maybe he wants to mess around with BOTH Mike and Ike.

Love the Hot Honey Rag at the end. In my head I'm dancing along with the two guys.
