The new Netflix series "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" has been praised by critics as the most accurate depiction of the serial killer's story. However, others have claimed the popular series left out important information and got other facts wrong. The Law&Crime Network's Jesse Weber and New York Post writer Kayla Cobb break it down.

honestly evan’s performance was just absolutely mind blowing. he freaking killed it. i know he’s gonna get an award for that
  • Dahmer also didn't take bags of plasma home from work, he tasted a vial at work and spat it out as he didn't like it. The show certainly embellished that scene. Glenda Cleveland is a huge character in the Netflix show but wasn't his neighbor. Pamela Bass (his real neighbor) actually liked Dahmer and said he was friendly and would visit Pamela with sandwiches and she only wondered afterwards (once his crimes were revealed) if they had perhaps contained human meat, so the dramatic scene with Dahmer and Glenda, with him saying "EAT the sandwich" didn't happen. Embellishments happen on drama shows. Some of what Pamela Bass has stated was 'woven in' to the Glenda Cleveland character. The apartments Glenda lived in still stand whereas the block Dahmer lived in was demolished. I still enjoyed the drama as it is one of the most detailed dramatizations of his crimes but yes, there were embellishments (as there always is with TV shows).
  • This woman is a crummy source for facts and you guys should vet her. Among other thing Miss Cleveland was not actually Dahmer’s next door neighbor. She lived in a building away. She and her daughter are the folks who found Konarek and called the police. Other Oxford apartment residents called complaints about the smells. In the Netflix series she’s meant for high drama.

I hope people aren’t out here blindly trusting the accuracy of a dramatization. I always fact check for historical accuracy. It’s not uncommon for multiple people to be rolled into one character.

As a young teen when this happened, we were scared and my parents were glued to the screen on news reports. Eventually, he became a joke, but hardly any of us really thought about the victims, just how horrible Dahmer was. Shamefully, it took watching this series for me to get the impact of what he did to that Laotian family hit for the first time when the father was in court. Then when the next episode was obviously going to be about a deaf victim, I couldn’t watch anymore. It’s so so awful.

She totally lost me when she said that she did not find information of this being a huge story in the media of the time. What?????? The moment it happened it was all over the news and we were all talking about it. The the phrase “heads in a refrigerator” was a common saying all through the 90s. All she had to do was interview anyone who was not hiding under a rock at the time. Wtf???

Dahmer's father, Lionel, never introduced Jeff to taxidermy. He let Jeff do it and play around with it, but he never helped or instructed him.

One "embellishment" I thought was lousy was in the incident with Steven Hicks they portrayed Hicks as a homophobe who attacked Dahmer for coming on to him, when to the best of what I could find Hicks was described as a sweet and meek person and Dahmer never actually revealed his sexuality to him. Hicks started talking about girls and Dahmer assumed he wouldn't be interested in him.

This woman’s source = “bro trust me “
  • Ok everyone is worried about total accuracy here's some: Serial killers are real and they don't have signs or marks of the devil to make them recognizable. Documentary's are meant to teach and make aware events that took place. There are only two people who know exactly what happened the killer and the victim (victim's dead can't speak). Yes it is traumatic for victims families, but that trauma is always there regardless of movies. If you can't handle the brutality of crimes, don't watch these types of shows. Don't mean to sound harsh, I do feel for the families but America needs to wake up, Evil does not wear a sign telling you there is evil.

Like, like, like, couldn’t they get someone else for this interview?
  • @Nik1643Nik
The Laotian Boy being led back to his apartment was just a sick act from the police. I can’t believe them.
  • Interesting topic, horrible interview. She doesn't seem to know anything.
  • @CC-or9gd
Netflix didn't even talk to or get permission from the witnesses families ..that's the most messed up thing ever. All of sudden one day you see the documentary and someone acted as you in the court room? Messed up!
  • I learned more about the facts and fiction from the comment section than from the guest. I hope you can find a True Crime Expert that has done his/her search and make another interview because this one was awful, she even says she's a TV critic and no true crime expert.
  • @Itsawifestyle
This reporter didn’t do her homework. Also her public communication skills are lacking.
  • @chrisbouve846
“She (Glenda Cleveland) heard screaming, and smelled things from his apartment to hers”… she lived in a different building ma’am, please stfu This is her first example of the show being accurate and it’s one of the most inaccurate parts about it😂😂😂
  • @Doikel
The part where they said "actual phone call" and it was clearly all studio recorded bs made me laugh and angry
  • @ladymay3423
I will say this, that guy playing Jeff's role needs an academy award 👍
  • @84Shadows
So… she doesn’t know what she’s talking about
