    Say, why aren't you trying to test toothbrushes with the mouth-color test? Meaning after you eat something, put the color liquid in the mouth, brush, and then show how well it did. Sure it's not so scientific, but it gives some indication if it's doing a good job... Also, about sonic-based toothbrushes like here (in other words, vibration-based), is it true that this is how you use them? Just move them slowly over each tooth, and not really brushing it on your own?
