For those struggling with sidestepping, it is a technique that requires a lot of character knowledge and game experience. Many long range attacks are linear, so sidestepping is often best used at mid to long range when the opponents only real options to attack are things like long outstretched kicks and punches, but the situation truly does vary from character to character. A good starting point is using sidesteps to avoid a lot of while running attacks, as they usually don’t track very well, like Azucena’s running 3,2 or Kings running 3. A character specific sidestep example is against kazuya himself, the Mishima wave dash 50/50 is notoriously weak to side step left (Kazuya’s right), so experienced opponents can keep mishimas on their toes with well time side steps.

I haven't watched Zanny play Tekken in a while but holy shit he's gotten so much better. Btw zanny, for your wavedash mixup, instead of using cd1 as your mid option, use ff3 instead. Essentially, you can do cd, then press f3 to get a ff3, cause the f at the end of your crouch dash still counts as a separate f input. Another good mid option is ff2.
