  • One of The Finest Westerns in modern Times. You can watch it over and over and it doesn't lose anything.

One of my favourite westerns! Kevin got it just right. He turned into a wonderful filmmaker, and his acting has always been first class. Kevin Costner is a true Hollywood legend.

You forgot to mention Button and Mose! Two of the most adoring characters!
  • @MagSeven7
Open Range is one of my top westerns of all time. The portrayal of cowboys is so real and I love the relationship between Boss and Charlie. I could binge watch this movie over and over. Great video. Thanks so much.

All I know is that this western is one of the best westerns I ever seen, and I've seen nearly every western made.
  • @grahamrfilm
For me Open Range is a Great Western a 10/10. Horizon i really liked and can't wait to see part 2.
  • @jaray2555
Not only one of the best westerns ever made but one of the best movie soundtracks ever.
  • Open Range has a very special place in my heart as it was one of the few movies my grandfather and I got to see in theaters together. Over the next 10 years up until his death in 2013, I think he watched Open Range more than any other Western.

I live about two hours from where this was filmed in southern Alberta. Truly one of the finest homages to the settlement of the west ever filmed. Costner really brought the old West to life.

Along with Unforgiven and The Searchers, Open Range is IMHO one of the best westerns ever made. Admittedly The Searchers was a stylized 50's version of what people thought a western should be, but the story line runs much, much, deeper. And although the shootout of Open Range may have been what got it the 'R'' rating, the shootout is one of the most realistic and authentic scenes. Contrary to popular belief, shootouts on the American frontier were very brief, very chaotic, and very violent. Something that Costner captures extremely well in Open Range. Have not yet seen Horizon but plan to very soon.

Highly underrated movie! One of my favorite westerns ever made. Some people just donā€˜t seem to get Costner and thatā€˜s just fine by me. I adore the crap out of him and his storytelling

Absolutely loved this movie. Outstanding performance by the actors. One of the few movies Iā€™ll watch multiple times.
  • @gsdfan8455
I really enjoyed this movie, Iā€™m gonna have to see if I can find it and watch it again. Thanks for this
  • The opening of the final gun fight is one of the greatest. This, Appaloosa and The Searchers. And Once Upon a Time in the West. And the no name triliogy are the best.
  • @Caje-zf8md
It was really refreshing to see a movie that was able to do away with the 1950's Hollywood creation of the "fast draw" scene. The shootout scene in Open Range was much more realistic with the combatants using their sights instead of shooting from the hip.

I had a Birds Eye view to the whole movie as I had a part in itā€¦ as one of Macā€™s boys. (14 in the credits) Being in the gunfight, saloon scene, mop-up of the gunfight ā€¦ it gave me a great perspective of this video you just made. Another thing you didnā€™t know was the set he built was excellent and the beautiful native reserve that he built it on was going to use the set to hire it out for other movies in the future. After filming stopped, they were cleaning up and burning debris, and the town actually caught on fire accidentally and the whole thing burned down. Very sad! The barn that Percy was in was exquisite and the set was excellent. I ended up with 18 days on set and worked with Kevin and Robert in my first scene and first day ā€¦ my dialogue scene with both. Quite a moment for a young actor to come to set and first day to be alongside those icons ā€¦ me being from Calgary Alberta only 45 minutes drive from set. Kevin was ā€œpainedā€ and intense ā€¦ it seemed. But professional and so Personal at the same time. But we all know why later as we found out he was suffering with a lot of pain from appendix issues. My wife I like to dance and went out to a local Latin dance place after our first day of shooting and Robert and his wife were there, as she was from Argentina. It was very surreal in Calgary at a place we like to dance at, sitting next to and chatting with Robert and his wifeā€¦ as a coworker. I have been overseas with the military in 1993 peacekeeping, as an infantry soldier, and had watched ā€œapocalypse nowā€ā€¦ and made a comment to my buddy that wouldnā€™t it be amazing to work with Robert Duvall as a young actor. Few years later my buddy was watching open Range and there I was working with Robert Duvallā€¦ It was one of those moments in life for sure!! Probably one of my favorite films was ā€œRobin Hood, Prince of thievesā€ or ā€œuntouchablesā€ and of course, ā€œdances with wolvesā€ā€¦ So to be auditioning and then get picked to work on this film was quite an experience for a Calgary actor. I will always cherish my time on that set and projectā€¦ And I really enjoyed your video.
  • I love this movie. Robert Duval is one of my all time favorite actors and the chemistry between him and Kevin Costner was outstanding and so natural. I saw it in the theater and loved the grandeur of the cinematography. It was breathtaking. One of my top five favorite westerns. I have not seen Horizon yet but am looking forward to itā€¦
  • @CARNLOU
At the time of writing, I have only viewed Part 1 of Horizon. Nevertheless, I would still go with Horizon. This has been a passion project of Costner's for well over 30 years, and it absolutely shows. A truly great movie and I look forward greatly to the remaining parts.
  • For us, we normally do NOT read or pay attention to reviews, especially the Hollywood Reporter. First of all-we are fans of the western genre(we donate every year to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum), second, we give the people the benefit of the doubt. Especially Kevin Costner, who has a background for this sort of thing.
