Love to see you guys reacting to this. The underlying story is pretty sad, he lost both his parents before he turned 13 and had promised his dad he'd be in Eurovision someday. So this is him completing the promise. And he didn't change his style or vibe for anyone.

That little road is the road near the tiny village in Friesland where he lived with his parents. So touching that he went back to shoot on location

the story behind the song is harder than most people think. When Joost was little he always watched the Eurovision Song Contest with his parents. Once when they were watching he said "one day I'm going to stand there too" and he did. Unfortunately his parents won't be there because when he was 12 his father died and a year later his mother also died. In the lyrics he also calls the song "papaoutai" (daddy where are you). Explanation of the ending part. Joost's father told Joost when he was very young. That borders are made by people. And that they don't really exist. He says he misses his father and tells his father that he listened to him. It is happy music but hard lyrics.

Drinking a chouffe from a delirium glass, my belgian heart just stopped

You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.
  • Proud to be Dutch lmao, the happy hardcore genre pretty much had its origin in The Netherlands which is what this track is influenced by! ;) Been watching this channel for a while now but never rlly picked up on the fact that your wife is from NL too Casey! The more you know :)

Eurovision doesn't generally get super famous artist, since it can either be a career maker or killer. In recent years some artist became really big because it. Tik tok really helps in that, since a lot of Eurovision can be really meme-able.
  • @kupuh
Like you did read in all reactions; he lost his parents at young age; so he didn't just give a shout-out to Stromae. 'Papaoutai' means: 'Dad, where are you?'
  • @uEryxx
papa means dad in Dutch. Europapa is dedicated to his dad which passed away due to cancer. He was just a little kid 12 years old. His mom died a year later due to a cardiac arrest. Writing songs is like a therapy to dedicate songs mostly to his parents. His father give him the mindset that there are no borders. Borders are just invented by people so dare to think without limits. why don't you invent your own world. If you want to know more about Joost Klein you should give Florida 2009 a shot and Wachtmuziek. Both are in Dutch but there are lyrics for you can translate in English. It gives a better understanding who he is.

As a Belgian i am schoked to see you drink la chouffe in a glass of delirium tremens.... we call that a sin LOL. But impressed with the glass collection in the back (the kwak glass is very hard to get). The event is in may 7 and 9 are the semi finals and 11 is the grand final. By the way ask your inlaws for a better translation then the youtube one. There are so many different levels to view the lyrics in dutch. You have to be fluent to understand them all and the references he makes. It is a catchy song so even if you don't understand everything it is nice, but when you understand it completly it is a masterpiece. I hope my country will give him 12points.

With the few things I know about Joost Klein (just from his music and some interviews) this song feels like a painting by Michelangelo. Every single word and image seems like a brush stroke that is there on purpose. Having it's own place, but is also part of the bigger picture. This man is art. Groetjes uit Nederland.
  • I live in belgium and like every 30 minutes or so,the radio stations play this song. It's stuck in my head😂
  • I am from Holland this is real dutch this is our style music for ages but this is the first time that this style is used
  • @PotenzaZ
It's pure Dutch haha. The Dutch hardcore it's something i'm proud of as a Dutch boy. Eurovision is in May.
  • @Vincent-py1px
If you KNOW, you KNOW,. This song (lyrics + videoclip) is pure ART. So many depth and double meanings, Joost is a genius ! Joost has a song called "friesenjung" went viral and has more than 100M streams
  • @victorweyts123
As a belgian person, the first thing I noticed was that you are drinking an "La Chouffe" in a "Delirium"-glass. I will say this now, 'THIS IS MADNESS". HAHA Please enjoy our Belgian beer culture!
  • @coolshookieboy91
i love that the Legend in the hardcore scene Paul Elstak helped with the song. He is the guy in the car.
  • @sydney02403
'At the end of the day we are all human beings. My father once told me the world has no borders. I miss you every day I whisper to myself. You see now dad, I did listen to you...'
  • @wolfress7819
I dont know if it is allowed or possible but the guy on the tv that says "welcome to europa jonge" is from a dutch movie called New Kids it is pure dutch but super funny to watch. disclaimer they swear a LOT in it, so i dont know if it maybe will get demonetized. you can also just watch it on your own it pretty fun and very very dutch
