What role does religion play in the US presidential elections?

With a powerful Tea Party movement framing Republican policy in Washington and across the US, Fault Lines looks into the links between the Tea Party movement, the Christian conservative movement and Republican politics ahead of the GOP primaries.

As the race for the Republican presidential nomination for the 2012 elections heats up, Fault Lines follows the Iowa campaign trail to investigate the underlying forces shaping candidates' strategies.

God woke me up at 3:15 and said, "I can't sleep, you want to burn one?" Hallelujah, God has killer weed.

I find the republican party heart breaking these days, the way they have embraced such hate from the extreme right. I don't understand why they have changed so much from what I grew up with. I don't want to be in an ideological war with anyone one, but they leave no choice - either fight the extreme right or ignore them and let them take over. But I find it all so depressing to stay on topic for long and their tenacity is exhausting.

If I was off Earth for the last thirty years, when I got back, this would be the best clip to watch, to catch up with what's really going on in the USA.

Ron Paul is a christian but is not singing to the same hymn sheet. He understands that you can not force morals on others with laws. "It is not true that the function of law is to regulate our conciousness, our ideas, our wills, our education, our opinions, our work, our trade, our talents or our pleasures. The function of law is to protect our free excersise of these rights." ~ Frederic Bastait Ron Paul is the only candidate that has not been bought by corporate forces. Ron Paul 2012!

@JAFrk If you look at the trend of elections...Republicans fair better when the voter turnout is low. This is why so many red states have recently passed restrictive voting laws.
