Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics for just about all of Elton’s songs…….Elton wrote the music. They were an iconic team.

About 25 yrs ago me, my mom and my wife went to see Elton. Right before show was to start, he came on stage, and he said he had good news and bad news. He said, "The bad news is that my band and their instruments had a problem and never made it" Then he said, "But the good news is you have me and my piano for the next 3 hours".

Most people like and respect EJ, regardless of their religion or political affiliation. He has always respected everyone back. Rush Limbaugh(famous conservative) invited EJ to sing at his wedding and EJ accepted. Things havn't always been how they are today.

Elton's lyricist partner in song-writing, wrote these lyrics when he (Bernie Taupin) was just 17 years old. Elton has said in interviews that as he's aged he's increasingly amazed at how beautiful of love song such a young & inexperienced person could ever write. Magic! The whole song came together, lyrics & music, very quickly.

What shocks most of us older folks is that you never heard this song before. Ewan McGregor shocked me with his singing voice when he sang this in the movie "Moulin Rouge". "Tiny Dancer" and "Candle in the Wind" are other must listens. Sir Elton actually got married to protect his career from the rumor mill. I actually don't know anyone who could be openly gay in 1970.

"Your Song" was his first major hit (#8 in the USA). He was part of the whole singer/songwriter trend of those years. Like Carole King, John wrote the music and someone else, Bernie Taupin, wrote the lyrics. That platonic partnership lasted for decades with much success. Elton was still publicly closeted at the time. He was 23 or so (and had his own hair). Judging by his early songs and shy delivery no one guessed that he'd become such an exceptionally flamboyant stage performer within just a few years.

SO much great music: this, Tiny Dancer, 60 Years On, Candle in the Wind, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Tonight, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, Nobody Wins, and then The Lion King, Road to El Dorado, Aida, this man is an icon, an amazing artist, a musical genius. He is just part of so many peoples' lives. Thank you for this. His live concert from Australia is my fave album. Thanks for this great reaction!

One of the most selfless lyrics ever written: "how wonderful life is, while you're in the World." He could have said life is wonderful when I'm with you, or life is wonderful when we're together, or talk about how you hold me etc.. Instead he says that no matter where you are, regardless of if I'm with you or not, even if I never see you again, this World is a better place just because you are in it somewhere, and knowing that you are present in this World, somewhere out there, makes life wonderful for me. 🥰 Oml I'm gona cry too lol

At a EJ concert in Philly I attended, some guy in the audience was planning to ask his girl to marry him and via a friend of a friend got a message thru to Elton and asked if he could dedicate this song to her and as Elton was signing this song, this guy proposed. It was so nice of him (Elton) to do this. Sweet moment at that concert.
