Codeine: What You Need To Know

Codeine is an opioid found naturally in Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy. It's somewhat misleading to call it an opioid since codeine primarily functions as a prodrug, offering little of its own activity. Morphine seems to be its primary active metabolite.

The drug is typically a controlled substance, yet it may also be available over-the-counter (OTC) in certain combinations.

Its name comes from the Greek word "kodeia," which means "poppy head."

Medically, codeine is used as an analgesic, antitussive, and antidiarrheal. It's also taken recreationally, often at higher doses.

The Drug Classroom (TDC) is dedicated to providing the type of drug education everyone should have. Drugs are never going to leave our society and there has never been a society free from drugs.

Therefore, it only makes sense to provide real education free from propaganda.

TDC doesn't advocate drug use. Rather, we operate with the intention of reducing the harm some substances can bring.

  • I hate how everybody says drugs shouldn't make you high or feel euphoric. If I'm sick or in pain I'm taking the one that makes me feel good rather than just better. Happiness is a beneficial and positive effect for a drug that's supposed to help you. Here you have codeine that's not really strong for pain. You can take it and be so high that it doesn't matter that much that it hurts. Or you can take fentanyl in winch case you can lose a finger and not feel it but you won't feel very good. Both are addictive or shall I say cause dependence. If I'm always gonna be in pain I'd rather take the one that won't kill me and makes me smile.
  • Morphine dulls the pain of dying but codeine dulls the pain of living
  • Gotta Say Seth, this is by far one of your best, most organized, informative videos! Seriously, I'm astonished by the amount I've learned, and just barely been able to comprehend during this some/if not most of this through a first pass. I tend to have to re-listen to your videos over and over! But that's fantastic, I get so much more knowledge from it. You have a gift!

I was sick recently and after a few days my mom gave me an old bottle and said it would help my cough that I had. I took it and went to bed. I woke up the next day so freaking happy. The stuff in the bottle was a mix of Codeine and some other meds and I still was a little buzzed from the last dose because I only went to bed a few hours prior. My dumbass took 5 times the normal dose and got the best sleep I had in a long time. When I woke up to go to school I quickly googled what Codeine was and saw it was kinda like morphine. I decided to take another big dose and go to school. I was so freaking high. I kept misspelling my own name when I wrote it down and everything was just so funny and I felt really good around people. Granted this was just accidental personal experience and I didn't plan on going to school high off my face but it will make a good story.

Was on codeine a few times after some bad slams in the skatepark (herniated disc, broken ribs) and it did its job. I felt really cozy, even looked forward to taking them. I kind of miss it lol.
  • Amazing video, Vector truly is our lord and savior. (sorry i was late to the video, was away from wifi for a week.)
  • @loganspargo9222
Who else laughed when he said "purple drank" in his serious tone
  • I think Codeine does have anti coughing effects simply because it slows down regular breathing and breathing can aggravate a bad cough. Shallower breathing, less irritation in the throat, less coughing. Right?
