12 year-old climber Gianluca Vighetti fights for his first 9a, making climbing history in the process.

In September 2021, a little known 12 -year old climber reached the top of a climb which was his hardest route to date, and in doing so broke the record of the youngest climber to climb 9a in the world. This is the story of Gianluca and the route and how with the help of his father, coaches and friends he managed to make climbing history.

    Very interesting to watch his style. Perhaps as a result of his young age and likely shorter spans he seems to discover a lot of intermediates and has very precise placement. He has all the mobility one could ever imagine! It will be interesting to see how he and his style develop over the years
