As a beginner woodworker this was my first doghouse project! My brother asked me to build him a BIG doghouse and so I did. I used the trial version of Sketch Up to design this before building it and it took almost 30 hours to finish this. Any constructive criticism is welcome as I am always looking to learn something. Thank You for watching!

My inspiration for this dog house was by Colin Furze
   • How to build a really SOLID shed

I learned how to make lap-joints from Paul Ricalde
   • Build a 12 ft  gate that will not SAG!

That was very therapeutic to watch. Lucky dog. I can imagine it now, hanging out inside that awesome doghouse on a rainy day.

I've been a woodworker for years and I have to give you a major compliment on your work. Damn fine job! Good planning, good specs and you've done an excellent job with the tools that you had available. Inspiring! Congrats!
  • You don’t have all the fancy tools and woodwork terminology but for me I could understand and learn from you more because of it. On top of that you really inspired me to thinking I can also do this. Thank you.
  • Well done. It makes me smile to see somebody enjoy a project like that.
  • Wow, you should build these and sell them, many people would pay top dollar for this house. Awesome job man!!!!!

Another great video Emit, I'm at the Firehouse right now and had the pleasure of watching your work! Keep up the videos, you are a very good teacher. P.S. Your helper is AWESOME!

I can officially say, after building my husky his very own large dog house, I can say, this is a lot of work! Lots of bending down and being creative as you go because you have so many obstacles that happen. I built MINE out of pallets and ended up doing a angled, flat roof instead. Your end video of taking it apart was an excellent idea because you have to remember, it’s going to be VERY VERY heavy so building it at the area , WHERE the house will be AT, is best. which is what I did, but no way I’m ever moving it lol. Good work 👍👍👍

You did a fantastic job building the dog house and came up with clever solutions such as flattening the roof edge. I recently started a new job as a construction crew lead of new homes. My previous experience has mostly been in building maintenance and renovation. I had to learn new tasks quickly and I turned to YouTube a lot. It has been a life saver. I am always prepared to lead my volunteer groups and even teach the older guys new tricks. Going from a bare lot to a lived in home is an amazing feeling and feat. So kudos man on finishing your first big project and I hope it leads to many more in the future because you have a talent for this work.

Wow, that's really impressive. I'd live in that house
  • I’m gonna watch this video over and over until I can build some like this to sell as a career. Struggling with employment, thank you for this video. I’m going for it !

Only a couple small things I would have changed. One is the window. You mentioned one of the minor things with the way that the joints lapped (this is really minor though). The other thing I would have done is to put the plexiglass inside of the frame (centered) and made a slight down-slope on the sill plate. Much the same way a normal window is constructed; it would help with keeping water out. The other thing that I would have changed is longer screws for the 2x but joints, 3.5 instead of 2.5 .... I've been building crap for nearly 35 years and I can say that your construction methods were spot on and you did a great job. I would even say that this is over built but that's not a bad thing, especially with a structure that can be broken down into parts. Stronger construction is a good thing in parts that can potentially be moved around.
  • You’ve got crazy skills and I’d consider this professionally built. All of the detail and attention to even the smallest of things made the outcome incredible! I would love to have a house like this for my fur baby.
  • @testbenchdude
Hey man, those lap joints don't look half bad! Nice build, thanks for sharing your process. Cheers!
