If you are considering doing this yourself, take note that this guy has a full garage with every kind of tool in it, and a staff of guy's whose labor he is not including in his accounting of the cost of this repair. Labor at a regular mechanic starts at $100/hr at a really really cheap place. The diagnostic tools he is using can cost thousands of dollars, not to mention the lift, engine hoist, and all of the other tools. If you don't have all of those things at your disposal it seems like it would definitely be cheaper to just buy a car that wasn't crashed. I'm pretty sure the reason it was at auction in the first place is because the insurance appraiser had already determined that it was cheaper to just buy another car than it would be to repair this one and those people are not stupid. They are the best in the world at estimating repair cost. On top of that is the fact that this car has lost a ton of value already because of the status of its title. This car was totaled and therefore has a salvage title. It doesn't matter how perfect the repair is, or even that it's been upgraded. The car will never be as valuable as an identical car that wasn't salvaged. Just some things to keep in mind for guys who are getting inspired to get their own project cars. Be realistic, don't make an emotional purchase.

I've been a Professional Mechanic for 34 years, and I have to say, I have tremendous respect for what you did here. Great job!! It's amazing how much a job like this teaches you, and it is the job that does the Best Teaching. On top of the tremendous labor you exerted on this project you also Filmed and Narrated for all of us, Wow!

I feel like I'm practically a certified BMW mechanic after watching your video! How did you manage to make it so engaging that there was no need to skip through any parts? Excellent job!

Hey Matt, I’m 67 years old and I used to fix cars. My first was 54 Chevy and I’ve had seven or eight cars in my life but you are my hero. You and Chris the thing I do in the morning when I get up check YouTube to see if you’ve dropped any videos you and Chris, and a few others absolutely amaze me at your ability to fix these cars I’m so jealous and I wish I was younger so I could go to school and learn the things that you do. I know it’s DIY but you guys still amaze me I know you use the Internet a lot and they didn’t have that when I was a kid at 16 with a 54 Chevy, I have a 325 Mercedes all these problems and I’m disabled mentally they say I have dementia so I can’t fix my car and I can’t afford to fix it. I wish I could find one of you guys to help me. I know you can’t in England but maybe someone in America love you guys😅😅❤😅

I am going to say this; I have never watched a YouTube video without skipping any longer than 15 - 20 minutes tops and usually the longest I care to watch is when it is less than 30 minutes long, but you guys is something else. Not only you got me interested but I watched the lot, every minute of it. You made it so interesting; every step of the way is like an eye opener wanting for more. Brilliant job at video making and fixing up the car.

I never watched a 3hr YT video before, but I enjoyed this so much, the pure dedication, enthusiasm and personality of Mat made this watchable. 👏 👏 👏

And after all that hard work and customizing to your personal taste, in the end you gave it away! Unreal dude. You have a heart of gold. You really give meaning to the phrase “if you love something, set it free”.

Like others have said, I wouldn’t normally watch such a long video, but I got completely hooked by Matt’s enthusiasm & sense of fun, that I ended up watching the whole thing! Perhaps the mods/upgrades aren’t my personal thing, but I fully appreciate why you went down that road and, most importantly, was impressed at the attention to detail. Good work, buddy, and a hugely enjoyable watch. 👍

Knowing how much work goes into not only working on the car, but the video production, narration etc, ... kudos to you sir.
  • @cmesikano
Here’s the thing. I watched the whole series when it came out but will watch this movie here again. Honestly, why isn’t this on Netflix or something??? So so good! Matt, you are a brilliant chap and I’m behind all you do. Got a noob like me wanting to go start fixing my own cars!!
  • This is awesome! Having your dad help makes it fun too! Lots of people never get to spend time like this fixing or rebuilding something, it's a great thing to see people getting together and fixing something. Good on you!

It’s astounding the engineering that has gone into this car. My god the amount of stuff that is crammed into every little space. Kudos to you for the video I would have lost my mind in the process.
  • @carllinden533
It's insane how easy and fast you make this look, and filming all of it as well. Unbelievable.
  • @kevingunawan7985
WOW. i watched every minute of that 2hr58min video.. Props to Matt and his team for rebuilding and giving life back to that M5. Great job!

  • @aaronbligh3619
Working with your dad and having a laugh like you do with your pals is priceless. Life is sweet. Best days of our lives are today and tomorrow. 😉👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😎

Any one elses day get better when mat posts a video?
  • @Bigfoot_Playz
The most chaotic BMW M5 build but I'm completely here for it! Absolute madness mate!
  • @clivebeaufoy6485
Hands down the best car build channel on YT. Matt’s enthusiasm and his Dad’s laugh is infectious.
  • Gotta say I really respect you having the balls to take yourself into unknown territory and learn the way you do. All those little bits of experience add up and suddenly you are more knowledgable than people that only do specialized work. Plus you end up knowing a lot more about your toys than near everyone else does theirs!
