In Persona 4, Yumi Ozawa is one of two Sun Arcana, or Sun Social Links the game presents. P4 and P4G make sure to emphasize her grief, her childishness, and her complex changing situation. This P4 Confidant covers the idea of Yumi filling a role to escape the role she was born into, as a result of her father abandoning his own role in her life.

I really related to Yumi's story. My dad left me and my mom's life then only tried coming back when I was older and while I was still angry at him then he died before I forgave him and gave him a chance. By the time I learned that he cared and was proud of me, it was too late. I've had to live with that regret.

I really liked Yumi's social link from beginning to the end. People tend to say its not all that good as a social link cause your not interacting with her. It's just "She talks, and you listen" like some how social links mean you literally have to Socialize with them. But when it comes to situations like hers, sometimes it's a millions times better just to listen and be there for someone.

Feels really sad the way that you have to reject her confession, because feels like you are abandoning her too. The saving grace is the confession came in rank 10, so you had maxed out anyways and get to talk to her before the end of the game.

Yumi always reminded me of one of those poor bastards you knew in highschool who got their shit kicked in by life somewhat tragically during their studies. You could tell they were in a lot of pain but you weren't close enough for them to share with you, nor mature enough to go about it properly. Also man I wish you would upload these more frequently! But seriously these videos are phenomenal.

Although I find Ayane’s struggle more relatable, Yumi’s link hit me much harder emotionally. I don’t think her father deserved forgiveness, but seeing her give him the peace of mind he desired in the end made me respect her so damn much. I haven’t done this s link in a while so it’s definitely gonna be the one i pick for my next playthrough.
  • The fact that going with either the Drama or Music club means having to leave Ayane or Yumi alone is a sad thought.

There's a lot of people's moms collapsing in this game

I actually kind of feel what Yumi goes through. My dad didn't abandon us, but simply indulged himself in alcohol. It was horrible living with him, watching him succumb to his vices, tear my family apart and make all of our lives miserable. By the time we left I despised him, and didn't want to see him again. The few times I did visit him he seemed to genuinely miss and care about me, he wanted me to keep seeing him but I just couldn't bring myself to. During my senior year of high school he got sick and died in a hospital, I saw his body inflated with chemicals holding him together, he was hardly able to stay conscious. That day way horrible, returning to his room where he layed cold and lifeless, I never wanted him to pass away and in the back of my head I knew I played a part in it. But not long before he died he wanted to let me know he loved me even if I didn't believe it, but how could he? I was so quiet, so reclusive, a failure who never showed him that same love, and now took his life away. It's apalling that I can still live with myself knowing this, and unlike Yumi I'm at a loss as to what to do now, stuck in stagnation.

I remember when I played Persona 4 for the first time, I did Drama Club and Yumi really struck me as an emotionally understandable character. Looking back through the social link while watching a friend's playthrough of the game, it really got me to appreciate Yumi more. Albeit I still can't unhear the giant 4head jokes we kept making

I don't think her mom had any right to lie. He should've faced the consequences of his actions

This series never ceases to amaze me. Your analysis is so good. Thank you for always putting in atleast 110% into this series. Every video fits into my weekly schedule too.

I'm late to my own video! This was scheduled while I was driving to my new apartment in Austin! I need help paying rent so if you enjoyed this I wanna shamelessly plug my patreon 🙇‍♂️- Hope you had a great day!

This was such a bittersweet kind of link. One of my favorites of a non party member. Putting the tender feelings song from p3p in the background was such a good choice really amplified the emotions

Been watching most of your p4 analysis videos these past few days and it's really made me appreciate the game so much more, even though it's been at the top of my favorite games list for quite some time. I also started replaying it for the first time in years as well! Really love this video series, youve done a great job and im excited for whats to come!

I honestly relate to Yumi so much and I didn't realize until this video, I never really paid attention to her social link, but I realize now that she's a really interesting and relatable character. (Also commenting to get more reach for this series, I really love it and you've done really good with scriptwriting and editing!)

Yumi's S Link is the one I picked first and I prefer hers over Ayane. Her S Link legitimately made me have to stop playing for a moment to stop myself from crying.
  • Neat, a video on my favorite P4 girl! Yumi is amazing, and I love her so much. This was an amazing video, and I thank you for making it. Yumi's social link hit me really hard emotionally, her story was fantastically written and her character is really well done. Such a shame she's incredibly underrated (at least from what I've seen).
