The only thing 27-year-old Ria has of her mother is a photo, and a birth certificate which states her mother wants no future contact with her. Ria was adopted by a British couple, and grew up in Scotland, as part of a wave of adoptions from Sri Lanka in the 1980s and 1990s. Now she wants to find her birth mother and ask why she was given away at just three weeks old.

Beautiful! I totally relate to this as I'm adopted from Sri Lanka - she was in search of her roots. I wonder how she feels now that she has self defintion and her identity is not in limbo

So made me cry. Sri Lankan’s love their children. Their world is simple family and food. You were so good to return to your mother her heart must have broken when she had to give you up. Lovely ending

I think this story is beautiful- and i'm glad she was able to track her birth mother down. Whatever the circumstances were, she obviously wasn't in a good position to look after you. At least you can move forward with this new chapter, and always know your roots. All the best Riya.

The mother gave up a child for adoption as they probably did not have the resources to raise you. And usually contacts are preferably not exchanged to avoid future complications like what is happening now. It is a gift to be able to live in Scotland.

Iam from Sri lanka but I have to say why search for the birth mother when you already have a wonderful family ! Now the birth mother might misuse the daughter for money 💵 Just saying 😐
