Lyrics:

I can’t hide myself
I don’t expect you to understand
I just hope I can explain
What it’s like to be a man
It’s a lonely road, and they don’t care about what you know
It’s not about how you feel but what you provide inside that home

Being a man is what you make it
you can’t always live up to expectations
You try to please everybody while you struggle so you fake it and end up out of balance compromising situations
As a good man
A do what he should man
A give everything he has and do everything he could man
You might find yourself feeling all alone
Inside a house you built that you don’t recognize as home
And that’s what my daddy told me
And i’ll tell my son the same
Now that I’m older I relate and I actually feel his pain
He never cried
He might of lied but he did not complain
And he said son one day you’ll have to do the same
I get emotional when I stop I think and I look around
beyond the county lines of my small town
I think about all the men out there who feel like I do now
Who are screaming on the inside but won’t ever make a sound

I can’t hide myself
I don’t expect you to understand
I just hope I can explain
What it’s like to be a man
It’s a lonely road and they don’t care about what you know
It’s not bout how you feel but what you provide inside that home

Don’t give up, keep fightin’
As a man our son(sun) is our horizon
And our father’s actions play a role
And we end up like ‘em
So they can’t let us see them hurt
‘Cause we’ll embody what they do
And start a generational curse
No wonder most men are so depressed
All the things that they can’t express
They go to war
get thrown on the shelf
Then go back to war with their mental health
Then grab that bottle and ask for help
Try to pull themselves out of h*ll
Then fall back down and then realize that they gon’ have to do it themselves

It’s the circle of life
As a man you provide
They don’t know what you’re worth ‘til the day that you die
And that’s when they start cryin’
Then move on to a man to confide in

That’s why we feel
We can’t hide ourselves
We don’t expect you to understand
We just hope we can explain
What it’s like to be a man
It’s a lonely road and you don’t care about what we know
It’s not about how we feel but what we provide inside that home

That home
It’s not about how we feel but what we provide inside that home

My son-in-law played this song for me the other day. We were driving around trying to find a job after being let go when the contract got pulled at our last job. He was almost in tears. Both of us just hit some bad luck. I love my daughter but she is hurting him with her demands on him. This young man is only 21. He bought them a trailer and pays all the bills. She get to be a stay at home mom. He is the hardest working man I have worked with in years. It breaks my heart my daughter makes him feel like she does. I am very lucky to have him in my life. He is an amazing father and a good husband to my daughter. I hope she learns to treat him better before he leaves her or worse… I am almost in tears at my kitchen table thinking about how hurt he is. Thank you for a beautiful song Just an update. Things are a lot better. My daughter has really opened her eyes. Thank you everyone for the kind words. I truly hope everyone is having great times!

USMC vet, father of 9, (biological, step, foster and adopted), 7 years sober, work at the VA in the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, and this song hits so hard. Being a man, shouldering pain, regret, guilt, while trying to keep a smile on our face and be strong for your family is so hard at times. If it wasn't for my God and my family, I don't know where I would be. Thanks for all you do.
  • 71 years old and have lost my wife and so many friends in the last year and this song just gives me strength to make another day .God bless.

This song hits hard. I’m a father of a daughter that suffers from mental health issues. I sit in my garage and scream and cry so the rest of my family doesn’t see it. Thank you for this song that reaches out to fathers, husband, and other men. This song and others are a blessing.

As a husband and father, all we really want, is to know we are loved, valued, and appreciated for our sacrifice to our families.
  • @chadharrison3772
My dad passed when I was 22 and I never got to say goodbye. And now after 10 years of marriage and a 5 year old son who I cherish, me and wife are separated and it's killing my son. I asked my wife to listen to this song because I couldn't express my feeling any better. Maybe she understands now, I don't know. God will do what he does and make things right.
  • As a mama raising a son!!! I am crying!!! God bless all the dads, sons, fathers and men who struggle. You are loved!
