I think you nailed it on the first guess, the devil's not saying that HE is doing these things, but that WE are doing these things...and what puzzles us is why we go along and do these things with the devil, like trying to figure out the motives of a serial killer...and it's laid bare in one of my favorite lines, "I shouted out, Who killed the Kennedy's? When after all, it was you and me." and also in, "Every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners, saints." It's the old devil/angel on your shoulders...we all have that duality within us...so, the real question is what do WE get out of playing the devil's game? Girls like a bad-boy, and boys like a bad-ass...we're drawn to that darkness for whatever reason...

In album sales and ticket sales, The Rolling Stones were at one time second only to The Beatles. And their rabbit hole is nearly as deep. The Stones have many dozens of hits. Check them out! Five songs as a starting point: Paint it Black Gimmes Shelter Time is on my side (I can’t get no) Satisfaction Beast of Burden

Not a huge Rolling Stones fan, but I'll easily admit this is one of the top 10 rock songs ever. Lyrical genius, amazing musicianship, and literally the PERFECT singer for both the sound and subject matter make this a true masterpiece. "Paint it Black" is another Stones song you absolutely need to give a listen to.

  • @cletushouse906
You are a lucky man. You get to experience the Stones now for the first time just like we did years ago.
  • @smithcman
If you are not familiar with the Rolling Stones you owe it to yourself to explore their music. As others have pointed out, they are one of the biggest bands ever. And nice pickup on Jagger pulling some James Brown vocals -- JB was an enormous influence on the band.

This song has a message, do not blame the Devil on everything that happens, Humanity is to blame. 😮
  • @daveabels15
“I also have never heard of the Rolling Stones before” are words I’ve never heard said before 😎 Check out Miss You, Honky Tonk Woman, Shattered, Start Me Up…. the list goes on and on. They are one of the greatest rock bands of all-time.
  • @flutesong5527
I know this is an exploration of the unknown music, but the Rolling Stones are massively important in rock & roll. Keep listening young man and you will find much joy and inspiration,
  • @bar5radass
The sympathy part comes in because we, humans, have a tendency to blame him (Lucifer) for all our evil deeds, and he’s calling bullshit.
  • @legaltidbits
The Rolling Stones are the bomb! I have been fortunate to go to two concerts, they are excellent live! They have many many songs to listen to, and they have been performing since 1962! Mick is still as energetic young as he is old! Long live the Rolling Stones!
  • @annieoakley8949
The Stones are one of my top 10 in Rock and Roll!! Mick J still entertains like no other!! Listen to Paint it Black for The Stones anti Vietnam song!! Enjoy opening the door to endless excellent ROCK!! Keep in mind anything recorded before the 80s didnt have a video originally. Vids were made later for them for MTV!
  • @letitbesummer6536
‘When after all, it was you & me’ -we always blame the devil, but it’s humanity. We cause all the chaos!
  • @joannerichards1750
Mick Jagger is the lead singer for the Rolling Stones. He's 15 years older than Michael Jackson. He did not copy MJ.
  • @joeyboogenz
This is an epic reaction here. A very rare exposure of a masterpiece to just the right person who can appreciate greatness.
  • @elishuk9942
Rolling stones are one of those bands mentioned with the beatles, zeppelin, the who, and other great bands of the 60s to today. Mick Jagger is the singer. The great thing about music like this of the past is that is all talent! Musically, lyrics, studio, touring live compared to todays electronic, commercial stuff. Enjoy!

Hey Shon, welcome to the Stones fanclub! Your lyrical interpretation was so spot on, even if your didn't catch all the historical references - you really nailed the true meaning. Also, in 1964 the Stones had to follow James Brown in a show, (Jagger protested. saying "Nobody follows James Brown"), and afterwards he stole a lot of his dance moves, but more than that, his attitude, which comes through strong on this record. Can't wait to follow the rest of your musical journey!

The song goes down through history, the Czar was Nicholas II of Russia. He and all his family, wife, 4 beautiful young daughters, and his son and heir, Alexei were all assassinated by the Bolsheviks during the Russian revolution. Anastasia Romanov was his next-to-youngest daughter who many believed managed to survive death. There were at least a couple of imposters claiming to be Anastasia. It mentions WWII when Germany was dropping bombs on London in the Blitz, and the bodies in the gas chambers of the concentration camps during the Holocaust…it references also the 100 Years War between the French kings and English kings, the house of Capet-Valois and the English Plantagenets who also regarded themselves as the rightful kings of France. The line about the troubadours could possibly be a reference to the Thugee cult who worshipped Kali, the Hindu Goddess of Death. The cult would waylay, kill and rob travelers on the roads of India. Lyrically brilliant song.

You got it! You'd have loved it back in the 60's and 70's. Mind-blowing music . . .
  • @laupstad
I can see this song coming out today and still becoming a legend. Timeless brilliance.
