The main thing that has been lacking with my yard is a nice flower bed. This week we finally had a few days of nice weather so we got a start. We used a sod cutter to remove the grass and to dig out the border for the flower bed. Once we got all the concrete blocks set, it was time to install the drip irrigation system. Since we already had spray heads in there, it was fairly easy. Stay tuned for part 2 when we install the rock / mulch and plant all the shrubs and trees.

It's so nice that you have taken the time out of you busy schedule to do a few jobs around the house! Your son is a great help! Your home is very neat & well taken care of, I love the green garage! You have taken on a massive job, but in the end everyone is happy. What a great job you both have accomplished!!!

Looks great! Big improvement from the 2 lonely bushes that used to be there. Should look beautiful once you finish it off. Well done! 👍

Brilliant tip about mixing the topsoil with the grass seeds to put grass right up next to the stone wall! Thanks for showing such wall-building details, especially the level line and how to deal with the slope.
  • Oh meant to say that the wall turned out super amazing and really changed the look of the house. When you mentioned red maple my first thought was, 'will it clash with the red bricks?' then, 'is that too close to the house for a tree?' Can you grow Esperanza’s where you live? The yellow blooms would be a nice contrast & the size is easily managed. Can’t wait to see the next video of this project.

You definitely spent more time on leveling than I did on the fire pit patio I built two years ago. I was like, 'eh, it's level enough' and now I need to redo it this year.
  • What an improvement! Can’t wait to see the finished product! Your neighbors ate going to be jealous!
  • @annezeigler5982
Awesome transformation Brian! Very professionally done. Can’t wait to see what kind of shrubs/flowers you add.
  • Also, Justin, you are a really hard-working young man!!! Wish more young people had your work ethic, it really shows that you guys love what you are doing!!!! Great job, kiddo!!! Be Blessed!!!

Love what you are doing with your beautiful new home Brian.. as usual you and Justin have done a stellar job and looking forward to seeing the next installment

Best part of the video IMO is you saying you're not that good at setting a level first row of blocks but then it all comes together perfectly. I've done a couple of similar projects on my property and I used the same method: try your best with the base layer, but then just hit the blocks with a deadblow hammer until they're level, checking like 100 times per block just to make sure. It's really comforting to know that I'm not alone. Gives me a lot of confidence.
  • @frenchflyfisher
I will agree with James, ask your wife. You and Justin did a really fabulous job, can't wait to see the shrubs, flowers or trees you intend to plant.
  • @Dale.Nienow
Great video Brian, for only really doing lawn care and knowing a little about landscaping that is awesome! I do about 50 50 lawn care and landscaping and the more you do it the more tricks and easier it becomes! Can’t wait for part 2!
  • @Carolbearce
I think the finished product is amazing. Well done. My neighbor taught me mix my seed in dirt a long time ago and it woks every time. I can’t wait to how it looks with plants. A Japanese maple would look awesome on the corner!
  • @fathead2279
Mixing seed and soil in a bucket, that is brilliant and next level landscaping !
