Why is the West divided over Palestinian statehood? | The Bottom Line

More Western states are recognising Palestine, but as long as the US opposes Palestinian independence and sovereignty, “things will get worse for all of us”, says Yezid Sayigh, senior fellow at the Carnegie Middle East Center.

Sayigh tells host Steve Clemons that the United States is lobbying for “day-after” plans in Gaza that “set the stage for future violence” because they don’t lead to statehood.

Despite international pressure and a global solidarity movement supporting Palestine, the former Palestinian negotiator argues, the Palestinian national movement is not coalescing, and Palestinians are “leaderless” on the world stage.

We aren't divided. Only those with their greased palms on the levers of power and media seem to be
  • Forty three years ago Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (UK) was interviewed by the Jewish Chronicle. In the article she said 'I uphold international law. Once we go away from that , we shall not know where we are' She then said 'If we are not going to live by a system of international law, we are going to live by international anarchy', She followed this by saying 'Then no people anywhere in the world are safe.' She was a wise woman. Pity we have Prime Minister Rishi Sunak now. Not the same callibre and immoral. Same applies to Biden in the USA.

Why is the West divided? One word... AIPAC Saved you 24 minutes of watching this.
  • 1) ICC and ICJ should both legally order all members to recognise the Palestinian state. 2) ICC and ICJ should both send out a full arrest warrant for Netanyahu. 3) ICC and ICJ should both order Israel to stop its attack on Palestine. 4) NATO and the UN should enter Gaza and the West bank to fully protect Palestinians.

For peace prosperity and harmony in middle East, Palestine must be recognised as a sovereign state.

A major obstacle in the U.S. are the Israeli lobbies. They supply the money or threats in campaigns and own our politicians. This was a great discussion. Always learn when I watch interviews.
