Forest Bathing - How To Find Slow Moments of Calm in a Busy Life

Published 2024-05-02
Forest Bathing is a concept that originated in Japan in the 1980's, called Shinrin Yoku in Japanese.
It has become a vital part of slow living for me, going out into the woods and finding moments of calm and relaxation after a busy day or week. Now that the days are getting longer and there is more sunlight in the evenings, it's become easier to find time to go outside. The woods are bursting green and purple with leaves and flowers. It's a wonderful place to find yourself in and heal from worries and anxieties.

I moved from London to the countryside 3 years ago, but even back then, when city was my home, I subconsciously gravitated towards trees. London has many beautiful parks, and I had a small one 10 minute walk away, where I'd go whenever life felt a little too much. There was also a time when I lived about an hour away from any type of park, so I went around the neighbourhood and looked at people's front yards full of blooming flowers - that alone was a lovely experience, somehow connecting me to nature even through so little. "Forest Bathing" is just a term - while a woodland is ideal, I know that not all of us have access to them. It can be a park, a botanic garden, or your favourite tree in the neighbourhood. Any place that has even a smallest patch of nature can be healing. 🌿 Do you have your own favourite spot to "forest bathe"?

When I was a kid I loved to play in the woods near my house. Sometimes with a friend, but often by myself. I find that I still enjoy it and find peace in it. 🥰
  • I absolutely adored this video Daria, it really resonated with me. Woods, particularly bluebell woods are my favourite places on the planet. Acouple of years ago I bought an extra piece of land above my cottage garden on the side of a mountain in Wales and am turning into a woodland full of wildflowers

A lovely calming video Daria. We all need to experience the calming effect of being with one with nature, in times of stress.
  • I went for a walk in a Bluebell wood this morning. Truly beautiful and calming. I have to go forest bathing regularly for the sake of my mental health! Need to be near trees. 🌳💖
  • Nature is the soul's balm. I love going to nearby woods, and as you referred to 'bath' in nature. I feel at peace, watching the flowers, looking at the birds and insects, aware of the scents and calming melody of all that is living. From my heart, I send you a grateful and comforting hug and thank you for sharing these wonders with us. Take care.

Hi there! New friend here from Portugal, Europe! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Just found your channel and fell in love with your videos! ❤ I dream of leaving the city and moving to the countryside! 🙏 Cities like Lisbon here in Portugal are not what they used to be.... even with parks or nature nearby, the truth is that you can't have peace or enjoy nature because there are so many people, cars and noise and stress 😢 that it became absolutely awful to live in a city, even though, of course, we have all the services that we need nearby!🤷🏼‍♀️ Loved watching your video! Thanks for sharing!🙏♥️♥️♥️

I love forest..and i want to made a home for living there, you video inspire me to living alone beside the forest❤❤❤❤❤
  • 🌲✨😌🌳 What a beautiful video, Daria! 😍 I could feel the calming presence of the trees! 🌱💚🌿 That's what I feel when I forest bathe. 😊 The trees, as the kind and noble beings they are. (I feel for them, I'm like an Ent! 😅) 😊Your words are so true! It is said there was a time when a squirrel could go across Spain from North to South without ever having to touch the ground, just moving from branch to branch. Things have, obviously, changed since ancient times, but I belong to the green Northern Spain, where I can see the forest from my window, and trees still retain their strong ancestral meaning. I see them as my friends, and they give me strength and purpose. Thank you so much for this video, and congratulations again for the success of your wonderful channel, Daria! 🙏👏👏👏🤗🥰😘
