Steam Controller 2

On the website, it lists some of the features for these controllers, which include:

4 Custom Buttons to assign Functions

Full Gyro Support (only when "Steam Mode" is activated)

A customization feature to only activate Gyro when a specific joystick is touched

Continuous button pressing or "Rapid Fire" mode for face buttons

Supports both Bluetooth and Wired connections

A dedicated Steam button to start big picture mode or bring Steam up

A Quick Access Menu button

Controllers are Taking Over on PC

Stats: Controller use on Steam

Since 2018, daily average controller use has tripled from ~5% to up to 15%

~42% of these controller sessions are using Steam Input

During that time, the controller landscape has changed:

59% of sessions are using Xbox controllers

26% are using PlayStation controllers

10% are on Steam Decks

As usage has grown, our team has continued working to improve and add features to enhance the controller experience for these players. Here are some of the new features we’ve shipped for Steam Input and controller users recently:

Big Picture update– complete redesign of the controller first experience on Steam, bringing the Steam Deck user experience to the big screen

New controller configurator– rethought and simplified configurator to set, manage, and edit controller bindings

Gyro aiming– overhauled and improved experience for controllers with gyro, implemented Flickstick functionality in Steam Input

Virtual menus– added support to the desktop client

PlayStation Controller support

We worked with Sony to improve support for PS controllers including DualSense Edge, and can now automatically support future 3rd party licensed PlayStation gamepads

Xbox Controller support– We shipped a driver for Windows allowing us to better support Xbox One controllers, including the rear buttons on the Xbox Elite ControllersOne of the benefits of Steam Input is that when it’s implemented in a game, players can use any one of over 300 supported controllers to play. We also recently added support for the new HORIPAD for Steam (available in Japan later this summer), and worked with HORI's team to make their controller work well with Steam Input.

It's a bit of a stretch to call this a Steam Controller 2. The HoriPad exists on every other console. It's like calling an 8BitDo officially licensed Xbox controller a brand new first party Xbox Controller.

I dont know why someone or Valve just doesn't make a controller that has an identical layout to the SD without the screen. They're leaving money on the table! so many times I'm using a bluetooth controller and i'm like ughh gotta go grab the mouse to navigate and do whatever for a quick sec. They could even add a small physical keyboard at the center bottom like those attachments you can buy for xbox/ps controllers. that would literally be perfect for mouse/keyboard inputs on a controller. SOMEBODY STEAL THIS IDEA!
  • Experiencing a trackpad with haptics is a game changer IMO and I don't know if I can ever use a controller without it. Hoping Steam doesn't abandon it on SD 2 or Steam Controller 2.
  • Meh I use a trackpad in most games. If they do not make a steam controller with 2 trackpads I am not interested.
  • @pacioli
Its not the steam deck controller 2 or steam controller 2. Its literally called the horipad for steam.
  • @Luso___
The controller just needs rumble and 2x track pads like on Steam Deck and I'd be so excited
  • that hori controller looks good, i hope they release a variant with Playstation stick layout.
  • GOD NO!! I need touchpads!! I use a steam controller constantly and touchpads on the deck. I'll just have to buy more on ebay if they go with an xbox style. The OG is literally god tier. New touchpad tech would make a MKII perfect.
  • I know a lot of people are used to using the joysticks, but I didn't really play games before the steam deck and on the steam deck I learned how to use the trackpad for aiming. I have to say using the joysticks now feels terrible compared to the trackpad
  • @TheLexikitty
Really hoping for one with the touchpads, o use Desktop Mode mostly and still love my original Steam controller for, surprisingly, photo editing and hopping in and out of emulators and mods.
  • @bleppyboo
So noticing that bottom bit with the dpad and right stick. It kind of looks like that's a separate part of the controller. Maybe it's swappable and they would allow a TouchPad module for both track pads.
  • The Dualsense edge has the same amount of inputs but also has a touchpad for even more inputs and it currently has the best gyro on the market. It doesn't have capacitive sticks though, but for online shooters is that really an issue? when most would want gyro to always be on. I'm still intrigued though.
  • Needs trackpads, haptics, and vibration... Also needs hall-effect sticks
  • Gimme a steamdeck without a screen and call it a steam controller 2... Ill give you a kidney
  • That Hori controller seems like a step backwards from the PS4 controller I'm using. I use the trackpad for some games to create radial virtual menus to do things... plus I have one of those cheap button backplates to replace having to push in the L3/R3 buttons that works extremely well.
  • Using hori on other systems loved them so hopefully this will be as good.
  • well, theres room for 2 tiny squares on the sides of the bottom middle section for tack pads, have a switch to turn them on and off so you dont have to worry about your hand resting on then during gaming. Ive just been waiting for a PC controller that shaped and mostly formatted like xboxs with mouse pad and a spot to plug in a mini keyboard so I can transition between game, tv, and browsing on my PC with the same in hand controller. Its really surprising no one has done this yet.
