How to learn anything and become a better (beginner) artist | Talent vs Effort | Slow Cozy Rainy Day

Published 2024-07-20
Cozy and slow rainy day in the English countryside, pondering over talent and art as a beginner watercolor artist.
How do you teach yourself anything and become a better artist, creative or professional? It's not all about talent! In fact, talent doesn't matter.
Allow yourself to make mistakes, be messy and go through learning experience. Listen to yourself and find ways in which you create better art. Find what works best for you. Talent will never be more important than effort. Not even hard work, but rather smart work and understanding that it all takes time.

“Everyone has talent. What's rare is the courage to follow it to the dark places where it leads.” ― Erica Jong 🍀
  • Good morning Daria! I think talent is an interesting word. When someone says “You’re so talented!”, I might feel pressure that I should be the best or not make mistakes. Especially when it’s something creative, because no one knows what I struggled with or that it didn’t really come out the way I had hoped. For me, I’m most definitely a hands on learner. I need to practice something many times before I feel confident. I myself am usually the thing that gets in my own way, if that makes any sense. I have had moments of great frustration, but got through them and learned from them. It also encourages me to do my art the way I like and truly enjoy it. It makes me happy, regardless of what others think of my “talent”. Have a wonderful day. 💕
  • Those are some profound thoughts on talent. They actually do make sense to me, former artist and illustrator. I've been called talented a lot, and the word always came to me with a heavy sense of responsibility and expectations. I eventually burned out because, yes, the audacity and the action and effort eventually took its toll.
  • I hope you have success in your painting business. You're already a inspiration. Good luck! Your followers are proud of you! ❤️

You inspire me so much with your wisdom and creativity. Thanks for sharing these weekly beautiful videos, I enjoy watching your beautiful country way of life Sending you many blessings and light!
  • Hello, I love your videos! You bring such peace and inspiration through each one. I also struggle with the idea of talent. I do believe that we all can be creative, and in so many different ways - and also that creativity begins and grows with practice. I personally find that being creative can come very easily and naturally on some days and then be very difficult on other days. I've been learning more recently to let my creativity happen when it happens and to not force it nor be disappointed in myself when I'm not feeling creative. I am much happier about my creativity when I treat it like a friend who has stopped by for tea. I enjoy its presence, giving it my full attention, and then when its ready to leave I bid it farewell until next time! lol - This may sound really silly, but at 59 years old, this is where I'm at and I love it. Many blessings to you and Thank you again for your lovely videos!
  • Thanks for this video, I needed the reminder... my parents are artists and I've always felt frustrated that I don't have natural talent, I spend a lot of time trying to paint a watercolor or be decent at playing the piano. I'm not going to put pressure on myself, I'm just going to practice more and enjoy the experience... thank you, hugs from Chile ❤
  • Thank you for sharing such a wonderful vedio whoch makes me relax ,see the beautiful side of the world ,❤

“Talent is the audacity to go after the things you want or like”. That’s such a wonderful quote and really does sum up how I feel about the concept of talent. Sometimes I will share things that I have made on social media and will be told that I’m so talented, or asked if there’s anything that I can’t do and it always makes me feel very uncomfortable and I’ve never been sure why. You’ve hit the nail on the head by describing how you are drawn to creative activities, not to become any kind of expert, but because of the joy they bring. I just love learning new things and skills! This video has really freed up my thoughts about how I see my own creativity. Many thanks and all the very best to you ❤
  • Hallo Daria, the picture you have taken is very beautiful. What a beautiful feeling when you are walkin on the street and a beautiful bee flower is sitting inside the garden . May God bless you. with more real opportunities. Thank you, stay well.

Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way is a wonderful book, I have The Complete Artist's Way which I'm not ALWAYS steady with, however it always feels like coming home when I read it and follow what it says. I have just recently discovered your channel and am enjoying it ...and have subscribed. I played piano yesterday, that makes twice in the last couple days, which is good... for me these days. I want to start, or relearn, working with water colors. Your home is beautiful! Enjoy your day

Can’t watch it now, saving for later today. Yours are videos to enjoy, not to listen to in the background 🌹
  • Hello! Your videos are very beautiful, and your words are very inspiring) I often hear my own thoughts, perfectly formulated by you♥ Thank you so much for putting your time and energy into these wonderful videos!
  • Such calm videos, including them cleaning up or doing some things
  • What a lovely video, thank you for sharing! I loved the moody watercolor you created! I started "The Artist Within" about a year ago and it really helped, and then I became consumed with other things. It's a reminder to get back to it! You are inspiring me to start painting again, Thank you!
  • what a wonderful video , Needed this to unform my thoughts.
